PLN Gradually Recovers Electricity Supply

PLN Gradually Recovers Electricity Supply (0)

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN has recovered electric power to Balaraja Extra High Voltage substation in Banten Province, and furthermore it will be channeled to Suralaya steam-fueled power plant (PLTU) to gradually recover its operation to reach its capacity of 2800 MW of electricity.

In addition, power supply from Gandul Extra High Voltage substations in Depok, West Java Province, will be channeled to Muara Karang gas and steam power plant (PLTGU) to supply electricity to the Indonesian capital city, Jakarta.

Acting President Director of PLN Sripeni Inten Cahyani said here on Sunday that the power supply to Jakarta was expected to recover within three hours.

"We apologize for the inconvenience today, and currently all efforts have been made to recover the Java-Bali power system, especially in the area of West Java, Banten, and Jakarta," Cahyani said.

The company has focused on power supply to PLTGU Muara Karang and PLTGU Priok to recover the system in the capital city.

Previously, PLN has recovered the operation of hydro-generated power plant (PLTA) Saguling and PLTA Cirata which are functioned as power stabilizer, and, at the same time, supply the electricity to PLTU Suralaya through Cibinong, Depok, Gandul, Lengkok, Balaraja and Suralaya extra high voltage substations.

PLTU Suralaya is expected to return to its normal operation within six hours to normalize power system in West Java and Banten.

Blackout that affected thousands of homes and public facilities in West Java, Jakarta, and Banten was caused by several troubles in the extra high voltage 500 kV transmission of Ungaran - Pemalang.

"PLN has taken its best efforts and will have evaluation to prevent recurrence of today's incident," Cahyani said.

President Joko Widodo conveyed several priorities for the development of the coal derivative industry.

"There are several priorities that can be worked on, such as the coal gasification program or DME to gasify coal into syngas, which is needed by the petrochemical industry and DME which is very important as a substitute for LPG where our LPG is still imported so that it can reduce our LPG imports," said President Joko Widodo at the Presidential Palace Bogor, Friday.

President Jokowi conveyed this in a limited meeting on the topic Accelerating the Increasing Value of Coal through video conference.

DME or dimethyl ether was developed as an alternative fuel to replace LPG while syngas, which stands for "synthetic gas", is an energized gas produced through the coal gasification process to be used as raw material for chemical industries such as fertilizers and petrochemicals, electricity and city gas.

"I ask that the road map for the optimization of domestic coal be really accelerated by the application of environmentally friendly technology," added the President.

President Jokowi asked his ministers to determine the downstream product strategy he wanted to develop.

"So it is clear which direction we will go. How much will be converted into gas, how much will be converted into petrochemicals, and the areas that will be developed into the downstream coal industry anywhere, so it is clear what direction we are in," said the President.

The President also ordered that areas with reserves of coal resources should be sufficient to guarantee coal supply in the downstream coal industry.

"Previously, I would like to remind you that we all have to shift from exporting countries for raw materials and one of them is coal to become an industrial country that capable of processing raw materials into finished or semi-finished goods.

"I think this is a big strategy that we must be consistent in implementing it," said the President.

For this reason, the Indonesian coal industry is asked to move into the development of the coal derivative industry, starting from the "upgrading" quality improvement industry, manufacturing coal briquettes, manufacturing coke (high-calorie coal), coal liquefaction, coal gasification to molten coal mixture.

"I am sure that by developing this coal derivative industry, it can increase the added value of commodities many times over, reduce the 'core' of raw materials needed by domestic industries such as the steel industry, the petrochemical industry and no less importantly we can create as many jobs as possible," explained the President. The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan highlighted the increase in confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in four provinces, including West Sumatra, Riau, East Kalimantan, and Papua.

"In the four provinces I mentioned earlier, it rose 7 percent from 13.4 percent at the beginning of the 9-15 September 2020 period to 20.5 percent in the 14-20 October 2020 period," said Luhut Pandjaitan at a virtual meeting on handling COVID-19, Jakarta. Wednesday (21/10).

Luhut Pandjaitany, who is also Deputy Chair of the Policy Committee for the Control of COVID-19 and National Economic Recovery, also asked relevant officials to pay special attention to the four provinces.

"I ask the Task Force Commander, Minister of Health, Governors, Commander of the Main Command, Police, please look. So I will also pay attention to these four provinces, West Sumatra, East Kalimantan, Riau, and Papua," said Luhut Pandjaitan in a statement in Jakarta, Thursday.

Luhut also said that the involvement of the Indonesian Army-Police in carrying out the justice operation as an effort to reduce the number of the spread of COVID-19 was impactful.

This, he said, was seen in East Java Province, where because of changes in people's behavior, the positive number of COVID-19 had decreased.

"This data is real time. We hope that in areas with high cases, it is done like in East Java Province. So the cooperation between the Governor, the Police, the Commander of the Main Command, the Health Service is very important," said Luhut Pandjaitan.

The four provinces were also asked to ensure that there was a centralized quarantine system as an effort so that patients with OTG or low symptoms did not transmit to other people during independent isolation.

The Ministry of Health must also ensure the availability of drugs, ICU beds, and understand the clinical management of COVID-19 treatment.

The Ministry of Health was also asked to check the management of the referral hospitals again.

"Then to ensure the availability of all medical aspects, the availability of drugs, reagents, bed capacity, and the socialization of clinical management for COVID-19 patients, it goes well," said Luhut.

The government has planned three strategies in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. First, behavior change and early detection of spread, secondly the construction of quarantine and isolation centers, and third management of COVID-19 treatment.

"I ask all of us to refer to the three strategies, both from the Ministry of Health, the Task Force and the Governor, the Police, the Commander of the Main Command. All of us refer to that strategy so we really are a team, so no one goes independently," he said. (Antaranews)

The naming of President Joko Widodo's road does not affect Indonesia's support for Palestine

Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko said that the naming of President Joko Widodo's street in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, was a form of the United Arab Emirates' appreciation for the Indonesian nation. In addition, the naming of roads also shows the improvement of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Although the United Arab Emirates is strengthening cooperative relations with Israel, Moeldoko stated that the naming of the road would not affect Indonesia's support for the Palestinian cause.

Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko, Wednesday (21/10/2020) in Jakarta said that the naming of President Joko Widodo's streets in Abu Dhabi shows the development of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates.

Not only the improvement of economic relations between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates, according to Moeldoko, an increase in cooperative relations between the two countries also occurred in many sectors, including the cultural sector.

"I think we interpret diplomatic relations in a broader sense not only from an economic perspective but from a broader sense of how to build cultural relations, build relations between social sectors and so on," he said.

Although the United Arab Emirates is one country that is strengthening relations with Israel, according to Moeldoko, Indonesia still adheres to the free and active politics that has been running so far.

According to him, Indonesia's position in supporting the Palestinian cause will not be affected even though President Joko Widodo's name is assigned to the name of a street in Abu Dhabi.

"Our foreign policy is a free and active politics and it is believed and carried out by every leader of the country. The second is that our foreign policy towards Palestine has never changed at all. So it remains like that. It will not be affected by naming a road," he added.

President Joko Widodo's name is used as the name of a road section in Abu Dhabi. According to a written statement from the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in the United Arab Emirates, the inauguration of the street name was on 19 October 2020.

According to him, this is an illustration of how close the relationship between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates has been working together in various fields. (VOI)

President Joko Widodo's name was immortalized as a street name in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates on Monday afternoon (19/10).

According to a written statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Abu Dhabi received in Jakarta on Tuesday, the inauguration of the street name "President Joko Widodo" was carried out by Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a member and chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office.

The event took place at 4:45 p.m local time on the road that was inaugurated.

The event was attended by the Indonesian Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Husin Bagis and the staff of the Indonesian Embassy in Abu Dhabi. Also attending several officials from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Abu Dhabi Municipality, who together witnessed the unveiling of the red curtain covering the name of the street.

The naming of President Joko Widodo's road reflects the close relationship between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates and respect from the UAE Government to Indonesian President Joko Widodo in advancing relations between the two countries during his tenure as head of state.

President Joko Widodo Street is located on one of the main roads, which divides the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC) with an area that is home to a number of diplomatic representative offices.

The name of the street was previously Al Ma'arid Street, which in Indonesian means exhibition. The road connects the Rabdan road with the Tunb Al Kubra road.

Ambassador Husin Bagis expressed his hope that the naming of President Joko Widodo's road in Abu Dhabi will further strengthen and enhance the bilateral relations between Indonesia and the UAE, which have become increasingly close these days.

Street names in Abu Dhabi are generally geographic names that reflect the mainland history of the street on which they are located while preserving the Abu Dhabi culture and identity.

However, the Abu Dhabi Government in 2013 changed the names of several main streets in Abu Dhabi to the names of the great leaders of Abu Dhabi. This was done as a form of respect and to commemorate the vision, leadership, and contribution of leaders who built the UAE society.

The UAE Government had previously carried out a change in street names in Abu Dhabi with the names of leaders of friendly countries on 23 September 2019.

At that time, the UAE inaugurated the King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud street on one of the roads in Abu Dhabi as a form of respect for King Salman's contribution to the Islamic world and to strengthen bilateral relations between the UAE and Saudi Arabia and the people of the two countries.

The naming of roads for President Joko Widodo in Abu Dhabi has added to the number of roads with names of Indonesian figures abroad, such as Jalan Sukarno in Rabat, Morocco; Jalan Muhammad Hatta in Harleem, Netherlands; Raden Adjeng Kartini Street in Amsterdam; and Jalan Munir in The Hague.
