The Indonesian Embassy in Beirut has acknowledged its continued support for trade cooperation improvement between Indonesia and Lebanon. Indonesian Ambassador to Lebanon Hajriyanto Y Thohari gave the Primaduta Award to Lebanese businessman and importer, George R Fattouh. The award was given for his service in helping market Indonesian products in Paris from the Middle East. The award was given at a ceremony at the Indonesian Embassy in Beirut, Thursday (11/1)  Fatough, is the owner of George R. Fattouh S.A.L, a business that has been importing Indonesian products since the 1980s. It has a range of products, including: palm oil and its derivatives, oil and fats (including cocoa butter substitute, fat spread, hydrogenated palm kernel oil, and lauric confectionery fats), cardboard, stationary, and school equipment. Some Indonesian products are now even available at famous retail networks, such as Spinney’s and Carrefour. In 2022, the value imported by George R. Fattough S.A.L of Indonesian products, was 981.3 million USD. This was a 149.5 million USD increase when compared to 2021. Fattouh said Indonesian products are known for their quality and are in high demand in Lebanese markets. However, he said, the challenge now is increasing freight costs due to security challenges in the region.

Listeners, a number of delicious dishes were served to the guests of Dhaup Ageng Pura Pakualaman Yogyakarta, at the wedding reception of the youngest son of K.G.P.A.A. Paku Alam X, namely B.P.H. Kusumo Kuntonugroho with Laily Annisa Kusumastuti which was held on January 10, 2024.Head of the Customs and Accommodation Division, Dhaup Ageng Pura Pakualaman, KRT Radyo Wisroyo said that the menu served to guests was quite varied. These menus are typical menus prepared by Pakualaman Pura, Indonesian menus and western food menus were also available. All invited guests including VIP and VVIP guests got the same menu. The first menu served to welcome guests, namely two types of welcome drink, namely lime lemongrass and ginger drink with lime. The welcome drink was given when guests sat down and watched the Bedhaya Sidamukti and Bedhaya Kakung Indrawidagda dance performances. Next, they gotsnacks for appetizer such as croquettes and other light snacks. There is a snack that is considered quite special and rare called Garulina. Garulina was the opening snack at the Pahargyan Dhaup Ageng Pakualaman lunch on the first day. Garulina has been around since the era before Indonesian independence. Garulina is actually not a typical Central Javanese food. It looks like the Lapis Legit layered cake, but there is something different, because there is a special layer like vla which is made from fresh milk, eggs and sugar. To get this sweet snack, Pakulaman Temple has to place a special order from the third generation of makers who have been pioneering since the 1950s. In Jogja, Garulina is very difficult to find and is considered rare because it is not sold every day.

Indonesian Ambassador to Turkey, Lalu Muhamad Iqbal at the Bosphorus Summit held in Istanbul, Turkey, March 8-9, 2021 promoted the digital economy which can be one of the solutions from the global economic stagnation due to Covid-19 outbreak. In a written statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara on Tuesday (9/3), he stated that the digital economy is cross-border and it is not blocked by distance and sector. Quoting Oxford Economic data, Ambassador Iqbal also explained that the world's digital economy value in 2016 was US$ 11 trillion dollars or equivalent Rp158,640 trillion. By 2025, it will be US $ 23 trillion dollars or about Rp.331,703 trillion. In 2021, the value of Indonesia's digital economy is estimated to reach US$ 40 billion dollars or about Rp.676.9 trillion. While in Turkey, the value of the digital economy is approaching US$ 15 billion and it is targeted to reach US$ 30 billion or about Rp.432.7 trillion by 2023.

The Bosphorus Summit is a strategic forum in the Balkan region which is held in Istanbul, Turkey annually. The forum was attended by chief executive officials, policy makers, politicians, academicians, senior journalists, as well as social activists and NGOs from countries in the Balkan region. The 11th edition of the  Bosphorus Summit is the first international scale strategic forum  held in Turkey since the outbreak of Covid-19 occurred last year. The Indonesian Embassy in Ankara becomes a strategic partner at  Bhosporus Summit this year.

The Belgian government awarded the "Order of the Crown" to writer, columnist and female activist, Julia Suryakusuma for her contributions to social movements, particularly around issues of gender equality, democracy and human rights. Belgian Ambassador to Indonesia, Stephane De Loecker, in the award ceremony held from Jakarta, explained that the Belgian Royal Palace acknowledged Julia Suryakusuma's achievements and involvement in processes related to human rights.

Ambassador De Loecker expressed his appreciation for Julia's writing, which he said, was a combination of her own growth experiences with harmonious observation skills, as well as analysis from political and social perspectives.

Julia Suryakusuma is a writer, columnist, and woman activist known for her works, including Julia's Jihad and Ibuisme Negara, which describes state-based gender analysis, and various columns as well as written contributions that are often featured in one of the English language media in Indonesia. The Belgian government considers Julia as an intellectual figure who fights for gender equality, democracy and human rights, which are becoming increasingly important in a time when intolerance is increasing and the space for democracy is considered to be narrowing.

The "Order of the Crown" award is one of three Belgian National Awards, which began to be awarded in the late 18th century. The award is given to those who have contributed in the artistic, scientific, and literary aspects. In addition, the 'Order of the Crown' award is also given to those who have promoted the country's commercial and industrial interests, or who have served the country, as explained on the official website of the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The award was presented by Ambassador Stephane De Loecker, representing King Philippe, at the Ambassador's official residence in Jakarta.

Indonesian Ambassador to New Zealand, Tantowi Yahya has officially become the first Indonesian Government representative to the Cook Islands.  The inauguration was marked by the submission of a credential from President Joko Widodo to the Deputy Queen of England in the Cook Islands, Sir Tom Marsters, KBE which was held virtually at the Cook Islands High Commission Office in Wellington, New Zealand on Friday (5/3). Ambassador Tantowi handed over the credential letter at a simple ceremony to Sir Tom Marsters represented by the Cook Islands High Commissioner, Elizabeth Wright-Koteka.  On this occasion, Ambassador Tantowi conveyed warm greetings from President Joko Widodo to Sir Tom Marsters.

Ambassador Tantowi in his remarks before high-ranking officials of Cook Islands, who attended the event stated that by the submission of the credential letter, it is hoped that the relationship between Indonesia and the Cook Islands will be further strengthened, particularly cooperation in the trade, tourism, social and cultural sectors.  The Indonesian government is ready to provide development assistance for the Cook Islands.  Besides diplomatic relations, the Indonesian government will keep strengthening people-to-people contacts. Ambassador Tantowi reminded that Indonesia has the largest Melanesian and Polynesian people in the world, who have the same backgrounds as the Cook Islands population.

Moreover, the Indonesian government will also ensure that the Indonesian people in the Cook Islands will contribute in a bid to foster relations of both countries. The Cook Islands is an island nation in the South Pacific region with a population of about 17 thousand people.  The tourism sector is the mainstay of the country's income in which the number of tourists in a year can be 10 times of the population of the Cook Islands.  About 200 Indonesian citizens live in the Cook Islands and most of them work in the tourism sector.

Indonesian Ambassador to Kenya in Nairobi, M. Hery Saripudin signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the education sector with Rector of Semarang State University (UNNES), Fathur Rokhman on March 4, 2021. The Indonesian Embassy in Nairobi makes efforts to facilitate cooperation between UNNES and universities in providing scholarships. Ambassador M. Hery Saripudi in his statement said that this cooperation is part of the efforts of the Indonesian Embassy in Nairobi to improve educational diplomacy and strengthen relations between Indonesia and countries in the working areas of the Indonesian Embassy in Nairobi, namely Kenya, Uganda, Somalia and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Providing scholarships for outstanding students in the working areas of the Indonesian Embassy in Nairobi is one of the points of cooperation in the memorandum of understanding. The Ambassador hopes that by bringing foreign students to Indonesia, it is hoped that there will be many alumni who love Indonesia and are willing to help Indonesia's interests abroad.

Indonesian representatives abroad always maintain close relations with their accredited countries, including representatives of accredited countries that overshadow Indonesia. The Indonesian Embassy in Bucharest met the Consul of the Romanian Embassy in Jakarta to improve personal relations between the two parties on March 4. An informal approach is considered very necessary to facilitate various affairs that support diplomatic efforts of both sides. During the meeting, both sides discussed various matters, including the issue of consular services at the Romanian Embassy and the process of applying for Romanian scholarships for Indonesian students which is currently underway. It is hoped that the Romanian Embassy can facilitate visa processing for all Indonesian citizens, including business people who wish to visit Romania in the future.

The Indonesian Embassy in Ankara, Turkey keeps on promoting Indonesian tourism online by disseminating information related to excellent destinations in the country, although the time for re-admission of foreign tourists has not been known yet. The Indonesian Embassy in a written statement in Jakarta on Sunday (28/2) stated that the embassy participated in the Izmir Tourism Fair and Festival which was held virtually on 25-27 February 2021, in which the Indonesian Embassy facilitated a business meeting between Indonesian and Turkish tourism actors.

The embassy also stated that the tourism promotion carried out is a preparation for reopening Indonesian tourism which is currently focusing on the Covid-19 pandemic mitigation. Therefore, he hopes that if the tourism activities can return to normal, Indonesia will be on Turkish tourism destinations target.

Besides promoting the tourism destinations of Indonesia, the tourism promotion is also carried out to disseminate information regarding health protocols that the Indonesian government has prepared to welcome a new era of tourism. In the exhibition, the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara prepared a virtual booth that presented digital content of Indonesian tourism for visitors. It also delivered a presentation at the main exhibition forum regarding the preparation of the health protocols based on Cleanliness, Health, Security and Environmental Sustainability (CHSE) in Indonesia. To further encourage the promotion of Indonesian tourism among Turkish tourists, the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara also utilized social media platforms and content creators or influencers.

The Indonesian Embassy in Rome, Italy in collaboration with the Indonesian Language Development and Development Agency (BPPB) of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, is holding online course classes at the basic level of Indonesian for Italian citizens. A total of 24 Italian participants took this online course for about three months until May 2021. The course opened last Friday (26/2). The participants come from various backgrounds, such as parliamentarians, lecturers, employees, and students. This online Indonesian language course is the first program for the Indonesian Embassy in Rome. During the course, the participants will learn Indonesian for 50 hours of lessons, with teaching twice a week. In Italy, formal teaching of Indonesian has been carried out at the University of Napoli L'Orientale since 1964 through courses in Indonesian language and literature.

IPB University, Gadjah Mada University and Bandung Institute of Technology have collaborated with three universities in the UK within the framework of the UK-Indonesia Consortium for Interdisciplinary Sciences (UKICIS).

The signing of the collaboration related to the development of the corona virus variant research was carried out virtually last Thursday (25/2). The three UK universities which are involved in this collaboration are the University of Warwick, Conventry University and the University of Nottingham. Minister of Research and Technology / Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency, Prof. Bambang PS Brodjonegoro expressed his support and appreciation for the strong collaboration between six universities in the UK and Indonesia, as well as the Indonesian diaspora in the UK which are members of UKICIS. Furthermore, Prof. Bambang said that Indonesia learned a lot from research development in the UK and got references from United Kingdom Research and Innovation. He hopes that this collaboration can be an inspiration to increase bilateral cooperation in the fields of science and innovation.

The Manucipility Government of Hamburg, Germany expressed interest in collaborating with Indonesia in 5 fields, namely ports, maritime industry, digitization of logistics, new renewable energy and start-ups. This was conveyed by Head of the Foreign Trade Division of the Ministry of Economy and Innovation, State of Hamburg, Kolja Harders in a virtual meeting with the Indonesian Consul General (Konjen) Hamburg, Ardian Wicaksono on Tuesday (16/2). Harders who visited Indonesia in 2019, pointed out that these five fields are very potential and have multiple effects on other industrial sectors.

Indonesia continues to collaborate and coordinate with Iran in the health sector, both between government and private. This was stated by Indonesian Ambassador to Iran, Ronny P. Yuliantoro before the participants of The Third Technology Investment Meeting (TIM2021) which has been held in Tehran recently. One of the collaborations was the signing of a Product Supply Agreement for the hemodialysis machine which was held in early February. The collaboration was carried out between Arya Teb Firouz Co. and Barakah Medika Nusantara. Ambassador Ronny Yuliantoro also stated that cooperation is also expected to be carried out with other D-8 member countries, especially the development of the health industry, research and development of human resources in the health sector.

Brunei Darussalam’s residents enthusiastically visited the Indonesian Culture Exhibition at the Mall, Gadong, Saturday (13/02) with the theme “Global Cultures.” The visitors were amazed with the diversity of Indonesian culture. The exhibition aims at raising a greater understanding of the wealth of Indonesian culture and disseminating various collaborative activities between the Indonesian community and the citizens of Brunei Darussalam.

 

Through the exhibition entitled "Indonesia: Rich Cultural Heritage", the Indonesian Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan performed several goods, information and video recordings. The exhibition also represented 34 Indonesian Provinces from Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Papua islands along with information related to each province. The exhibition also performed the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humankind and the UNESCO World Heritage List from Indonesia.

 

The Indonesian Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan performed the Saman Dance from Aceh, the Gambuh Dance from Bali, the Pencak Silat uniform to Minang traditional clothes which represented Pantun. Besides, it also performed a replica of puppet, miniature of Angklung, miniature of Batik instruments, miniature of Phinisi boats from South Sulawesi, photos of typical dishes from 34 provinces of Indonesia in the form of videos, Indonesian culture books and tourism brochures. In commemorating the 37th National Day of Brunei Darussalam, this exhibition and many community activities of Indonesia in Brunei Darussalam are expected to reflect high collaboration and friendly relations that have been closely established between the two countries for 37 years.

Two Indonesian ship crews, who worked at the Italian fishing ship, MP Antartide, arrived safely at Soekarno-Hatta International airport on February 12, 2021. The arrival of the crews was facilitated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs collaborated with Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency and Covid-19 Handling Task Force. Earlier, the two Indonesian crews along with other 16 crews, who are Italian, Senegal, and Tunisian national, were arrested for 108 days by Libya National Army after the ship was accused of violating the Libyan Sea boundarySince the first information was obtained, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Indonesian Embassy in Rome, Italy and the Indonesian Embassy in Tripoli have coordinated with authorities both in Italy and Libya. The release process was carried out by the Italian Government because of another motive, namely the release of 4 East Libyans who are currently imprisoned in Italy for trafficking in persons.

Protection of Indonesian ship crews is one of the main focuses of Indonesian representatives around the world, including in Panama. To improve the protection of Indonesian ship crews, the Indonesian Embassy in Panama City held a coordination meeting with the theme 'Finding the Best Solution for the Protection of Indonesian Citizen Ship Crews at High Seas in the Latin America and Caribbean Region.' Indonesian Ambassador to Panama, Sukmo Harsono in his statement last Saturday (13/2) said that the Indonesian Embassy was at the forefront that Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) would look for in seeking protection. However, so far, the Indonesian Embassy has never had data on the number of crew members sent by agents from Indonesia to overseas. According to Sukmo, it is time to consider the one-door mechanism in charge of issuing certification or departure permits, supervising work contracts, insurance, and collecting data on prospective of Indonesian Migrant Workers, to be informed to every Indonesian Embassy and all related parties.

Indonesian Ambassador to Japan, Heri Akhmadi inaugurated the Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) Super Tanker Ship 'PERTAMINA PRIDE' at the Ariake Japan Marine United Shipyard, Kumamoto on Tuesday (9/2). As Quoted by niindo.com, Ambassador Heri Akhmadi explained that the existence of this VLCC will play an important role to support the fulfillment of transportation needs for Free-On-Board Crude Cargo as raw material for refineries. This is very important to secure the national energy supply.

Ambassador Heri Akhmadi further noted that the existence of the Pertamina Pride Super tanker would be an important part of Pertamina's business in the future. At the inauguration, Ambassador Heri was accompanied by his wife, Nuning Akhmadi, Coordinator of Economic Functions of the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, Rima Cempaka and Head of Pertamina East Asia, Made Adi Putra. Meanwhile, this was also attended virtually by Deputy Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Pahala Nugraha Mansuri, President Director of PT Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati and Pertamina's Board of Directors and Board of Commissioners.

The Pertamina Pride VLCC vessel has a crude oil carrying capacity of as total as 324,995 cubic meters or around 2.04 million barrels. This ship is a crude oil tanker of single screw driven and single deck. The total length of the ship reaches 330 meters or about 3 times the size of a soccer field with a depth of 29.35 meters.  Besides, Ambassador Heri Akhmadi also added that the building of the ship, which took approximately 18 months, was a form of concrete cooperation between Indonesia and Japan.   The VLCC will be operated by Sub-holding Shipping Pertamina. It is hoped that this ship can become one of the main supporters to further advance Indonesia's role in the international shipping industry.
