The Dispute Panel at the World Trade Organization (WTO) decided in favor of Indonesia that had filed a lawsuit against Australia for adopting the Anti-Dumping Entry Policy (BMAD) on Indonesian A4 copy paper products (DS529).

Trade Minister Agus Suparmanto noted in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday (5/12) said the victory over this dispute was very important, considering its systemic impact on allegations of dumping from other countries. The Panel's decisions and recommendations were expected to minimize similar allegations in future.

The dispute between Indonesia and Australia took place on September 1, 2017. The Trade Minister emphasized that the WTO stated that Australia's policy of imposing BMAD on A4 copy paper products from Indonesia violated Articles 2.2 and 2.2.1.1 of the WTO anti-dumping agreement. Article 2.2.1.1 of the WTO's anti-dumping provisions was violated since Australia refuses to use the actual accounting data of producers although the data meets generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and reasonably reflects the costs associated with production.//Antara

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has urged the Indonesian Congress of Women (Kowani) to thwart the spread of false news and spread education that can positively contribute to growth of the nation's children.

President Jokowi made the statement that was addressed to Chairwoman of the Indonesian Congress of Women (Kowani) Giwo Rubianto Wiyogo while opening the 25th Kowani Congress in Jakarta, Tuesday.

"We thank the president for once again receiving Kowani for the opening of the congress at the palace," Kowani Chairwoman, Giwo Rubianto Wiyogo, noted in a statement received in Jakarta, Wednesday.

The Kowani Congress themed, "The Role of the Nation's Mothers Towards Indonesia Onward," was held in Jakarta on December 3-4. The Congress featured election of a new chairman and synergy with several women's organizations.

According to the statement, President Jokowi believed it was time for women, as the nation’s mothers, to don an active role in averting the spread of false news.

He cautioned that the circulation of several news, particularly on social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, can have a detrimental impact on the mindset of the young generation. "The president urged Kowani to spread more educational news. This is especially true for women, as the first educators to the nation's generations," she emphasized.

She stated that during the 2014-2019 period, Kowani had conducted activities in accordance with government programs, specifically, those that President Jokowi had planned for building the character of human resources in ushering in and realizing an advanced Indonesia. (ANTARA)

The National Nuclear Energy Agency (BATAN) has developed a nuclear-based analysis which can identify an air pollutant and its origin, a researcher said at a workshop of BATAN-IAEA Collaborating Center in Jakarta, Tuesday. "We shoot an x-ray and gamma-ray to the dust particle (to identify the kind and origin of the matter)," BATAN's air quality researcher, Prof Muhayatun Santoso said.

Following the procedure, the researcher will be able to identify not only the mass concentration but also its variety. Therefore, this procedure differs from the conventional real-time analysis which would reveal the matter's concentration.

For years, Santoso collected hundreds of samples of air pollutants from across the country. By observing a large number of samples, researchers could map out types of air pollutants and their origins.

For Santoso, her technology can be used for anticipating land forest fires, mainly to map out the origin of haze and sources of air pollutants whether it was caused by natural disasters or man-made activities. (ANTARA)
