Hundreds of athletes globally will participate in the world's bowling championship held by the Indonesian Bowling Association at Jakabaring Stadium in Palembang, South Sumatra, on November 16-24, 2019.

Head of the Indonesian Bowling Association Percha Leanpuri, in a statement received in Palembang on Friday, expressed gratitude as South Sumatra Province had facilitated the international bowling event.

South Sumatra Governor Herman Deru stated that Palembang’s preparations to host the event are currently completed.

"I believe that the committee is reliable to organize the upcoming international championship, and also the province is 100 percent ready to be a good host for Indonesia's good image to the world," Deru noted.

As for today, some 76 countries, with 132 athletes comprising 74 male athletes, 62 female athletes, and 112 officials, have confirmed their participation in the event. (ANTARA)

Six figures were bestowed the honor of national hero by President Joko Widodo prior to the commemoration of Heroes Day on November 10th. The six figures are Ruhana Kudus from West Sumatra, Sultan Himayatuddin Oputa Yii Ko from Southeast Sulawesi, Prof. M. Sardjito from Yogyakarta, Abdoel Kahar Moezakir from Yogyakarta, Alexander Andries (AA) Maramis from North Sulawesi, and KH Masykur from East Java. As quoted by Antara News Agency, Secretary of the Military, Major General Suharyanto  while reading out the presidential decree on granting of the national hero title on Friday (8/11) said that President Joko Widodo bestowed the national hero title as the highest mark of appreciation and honor for their extraordinary merits. President Joko Widodo presented the honorary title to the heirs of the national heroes. Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, cabinet ministers, Chief of Indonesian Military, Marshall Hadi Tjanjanto, and Indonesian Police Chief, General Idham Azis were also present at the commemorative event. The 7th ASEAN Traditional Textile Symposium (ATTS) 2019 in Yogyakarta was officialy opened with the striking of kenong or small gong by chairperson of the organizing committe Gusti Kanjeng Ratu (GKR) Hemas, Chair of WastraPrema Adiati Arifin Siregar, and Arofa Noor Indriyani, representing Regional Secretary of Yogyakarta Special Region on Tuesday, November 5. After the opening ceremony, Gusti Kanjeng Ratu (GKR) Hemas and the Empress of the King of Malaysia, Tunku Hajah Azizah had a close look at the textile exhibition located at the Royal Ambarukmo pavilion. GKR Hemas told the press about the Malaysian Empress opinion on Indonesian textiles, especially batik.

 

"They are all really fond of batik. After seeing batik here, they usually make Batik in Malaysia, starting from the design, everything, but it's okay, it's okay because, clearly they cannot use the canting or special pen form making batik And usually Malaysian batik are more contemporary. I think we really have to give undestandig, to give Indonesian nuance in Batik abroad," said Gusti Kanjeng Ratu (GKR) Hemas.

On the same occasion, GKR Hemas also said that the challenges faced by Indonesian traditional textiles are raw materials. She hoped the government could pay attention to raw materials for craftsmen, such as "wax" or batik wax, natural dyes, and so on so that the craftsmen could improve the production of regional textile crafts. GKR Hemas also said that the development of Indonesian batik was quite significant with the presence of many new weaving techniques. (VO/IHSAN/AHM)

The 7th ASEAN Traditional Textile Symposium and Expo (ATTS) is being held in Yogyakarta from November 5 to 8, 2019. The event which is organized by the Traditional Textile Arts Society of South East Asia, aims to broaden the knowledge of people about traditional textiles. Governor of Yogyakarta Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X appreciated the Traditional Textile Arts Society of South East Asia for the implementation of insightful, educational, creative, and fun activities in a bid to disseminate textiles to the society. The 7th ATTS themed Embracing Change, Honoring Tradition has a wide range of activities including presentation about textiles from speakers from various countries. Furthermore, the 7th ASEAN Traditional Textile Symposium and Expo ATTS 2019 is expected to strengthen the relations and friendship among ASEAN member countries// (Lip/Ihsan/AHM)
