President Joko Widodo received a number of honorary visits by a number of Heads of State ahead of the inauguration of the President and Vice President for the 2019-2024 period at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

They were Sultan of Brunei Darussalam Sultan Hasanal Bolkiah, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morison, Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, and Raja Eswatini Mswati III.  

On that occasion the President was accompanied by First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno LP Marsudi and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung.  

To reporters, Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi said, the heads of state were present at the Jakarta Merdeka Palace to congratulate President Joko Widodo after being elected as President of the Republic of Indonesia for the 2019-2024 period. 

The Heads of State, according to Retno also expressed optimism that President Joko Widodo would be able to bring Indonesia towards a better direction in the second period of his leadership.

Meanwhile President Joko Widodo, according to Retno, expressed his appreciation for the presence of the Heads of State at the Merdeka Palace today. Jokowi also expressed his commitment to continue to improve bilateral relations with friendly countries.

“He conveyed his congratulations to the president for the next term and believes in bringing a better Indonesian. Second, they conveyed the commitment to strengthen bilateral relations with Indonesia. The President thanked the guests who came far to attend and the President conveyed the same commitment that Indonesia strengthened bilaterally,” said Retno Marsudi.

In addition to the morning before the inauguration, President Joko Widodo is also scheduled to receive an honorary visit from other heads of state after the inauguration of the President and Vice President at the MPR RI building.

The meeting is scheduled to be held Sunday evening and will receive an Honorary Visit from the Head of State and Special Envoy.  

Among them were the honorary visit of the Vice President of the People's Republic of China, Vice President of Viet Nam, and Vice President of Myanmar. 

Jokowi will also receive a number of special envoys from friendly countries, including the Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Korea, the Philippines, Japan United Arab Emirates and the United States. (VOI/Ndy)

Vietnamese Vice President, Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh is scheduled to attend the inauguration of the elected Indonesian President and Vice President, Joko Widodo and Ma'ruf Amin at the House of Representatives (DPR) Building, Sunday, October 20, 2019. This was said by the Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam, Ibnu Hadi, in a gathering with the media in Jakarta, Friday (10/18/2019), said Ibnu Hadi.

"Regarding the inauguration of the President, the Vice-President of Vietnam will be present as representative, the ASEAN Head of State, so that I, as the Ambassador has a task to giving attention and providing assistance."

In addition to the Vice President of Vietnam, a number of world leaders are scheduled to attend the inauguration of the elected Indonesian President and Vice President Joko Widodo and Ma'ruf Amin, including Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, and Vice President Chinese Wang Qishan. US Ambassador to Indonesia, Joseph Donovan andGeneral Chairman of Muhammadiyah, the second largest Islamic organization in Indonesia, Haedar Nashir met at Muhammadiyah Central Office in Jakarta Tuesday (15/10). Both of them discussed several national and international issues such as human rights violations that are happening in the Xinjiang Uighur, China. On the occasion, Ambassador Joseph Donovan called on Muhammadiyah to keep speaking out concerns to fight human rights violations in the Uighur minority in Xinjiang, China.

“We also disscuss a number of international issues and I encourage Muhammadiyah to continue to speak out against the repression of the Uighur minority in China. And we agree to meet again and to work together on all decision,” said Joseph Donovan.

Ahead of UN Day on October 24, and International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (October 13), Voice of Indonesia, the international service of Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) and the United Nations in Indonesia organized Diplomatic Forum talk show themed Multilateralism and Sustainable Resilient Future on Wednesday (October 16, 2019).

With its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire and an archipelagic country surrounded by the sea, Indonesia continues to face the risk of natural disasters including earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, and floods.

Natural disasters cause terrible suffering and can wipe out the benefits of development for decades in an instant. UN data shows that the Central Sulawesi disaster last year witnessed the destruction of 110,214 homes, a total of 172,999 people displaced and killing 7,000 people (4,845 people were killed and identified, 1,016 died and unidentified, and 705 missing and considered dead).

To achieve a sustainable and resilient future, all sectors must jointly implement change in Indonesia, as stated in the 16 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

"Insights and input on how to ensure a sustainable and resilient future in Indonesia will be very useful for this Forum," said Agung Soesatyo, Director of Voice of Indonesia, Tuesday (10/15) in Jakarta.

According to him, multilateralism which is often echoed by the UN in world development can be encouraged to respond to natural disasters that often occur in Indonesia.

"Togetherness in handling disasters and shaping a strong future is our common goal. "Before the commemoration of the 75th UN Day in 2020, it's time for us to start building a dialogue on multilateralism," he said.

The Diplomatic Forum featured speakers Mindaraga Rahardja, (Human Affairs Analyst of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs -OCHA); Christian Usfinit (Team Leader for Resilience and Reconstruction of United Nations Development Programs-UNDP) and Risya Kora (Program Specialist for Gender of the United Nations Population Fund - UNFPA); and Tetrie Darwis (Head of Sub Directorate for Preparedness and Mitigation, Directorate of Social Protection for Victims of Natural Disasters, Ministry of Social Affairs).
