Canadian Government Encourages Cooperation with Canadian Educational Institutions with Indonesia

Canadian government encourages existing educational institutions in the country to collaborate with other educational institutions in Indonesia, particularly vocational or technical training institutions. This was stated by Canadian Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor Leste, Peter McArthur in his speech at the Canada Education Exhibition (EduCanada) on Sunday, February 11, 2018.
”… So we are increasing and encouraging Canadian institution to promote technical vocational training program to pursue more research collaboration with Indonesia’s institution, in line with the priority of the government of Indonesia in developing more vocational school," Peter MacArthur said.
In addition, Ambassador Peter McArtur said that his embassy has also encouraged Indonesian students to continue their studies in Canada. Moreover, Canada and Indonesia are in a forum of ASEAN education cooperation called Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED). This program is a student exchange program that specifically provides opportunities for students or members of ASEAN member countries to continue their studies or research at Canadian post-secondary institutions at the college, undergraduate and graduate levels. Indonesian Embassy in Singapore Improves Indonesian Seamen’s Competence in Singapore

The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Singapore tries to improve the competence of Indonesian seamen who perform sign on-sign off activities in Singapore. The efforts to improve the competence are done through the provision of Singapore Indonesian Workers Card (KPIS) which will facilitate Indonesian seamen in Singapore to gain access to skills training after they finish sailing. This was disclosed by Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore, I Gede Ngurah Swajaya to media in Jakarta on Monday.
“…The next stage is seamen. The seamen who perfrom sign on - sign off duty are around 20,000-30,000. The next stage is that we go to the sailors. Well this will continue to be developed. So, the Indonesian seamen working on Singapore-flagged ships are to sign on and off in Singapore through the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore. So, these seamen will also be given cards like KPIS that make it easier for them, for example, if they get access to skills, they should always improve their competence," Ngurah said.
Ambassador Ngurah Swajaya added that providing Indonesian Workers' Card (KPIS) to Indonesian seamen in Singapore is one manifestation of services and protection efforts to Indonesian citizens (WNI) who become workers in Singapore. In addition to facilitating access to skills training, with KPIS cards, Indonesian seamen in Singapore can also easily gain access to employment insurance or BPJS employment from the government of Indonesia. The granting of KPIS to Indonesian seamen in Singapore is a follow-up of the provision of KPIS to Indonesian Migrant Workers (BMI) in Singapore since December 2016. KPIS itself is connected digitally with Smart Embassy program owned by the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore which contains a number of features, such as monitoring the location of the workers, various other consular services, Indonesian banking access in cooperation with Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) 46, training and education, and insurance. The government of Indonesia is pursuing the value of Indonesia's exports lagging behind Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam by opening new export markets and new products. This was affirmed by Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita after meeting Vice President Jusuf Kalla at the Vice President's Office in Jakarta on Monday. Minister Enggartiasto said that the increase in exports is still palm and coal. While new products in manufacturing such as automotive engines are exported to new destinations such as Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and a number of countries in Africa.“…There are two points: new markets and new products; we are still dominant in palm and coal. A new large manufacturing industry ranging from shoes, textiles, automotive, machinery has also started to increase," Enggartiasto Lukita said.
Minister Enggartiasto further said that Vice President Jusuf Kalla requested the investment to be product export oriented that also get incentives from the government. Minister Enggartiasto added that Indonesia's export value in December 2017 reached 14.79 US billion dollars or decreased 3.45 percent compared to exports in November 2017, while compared to December 2016 it increased 6.93 percent. President Confirms 2019 Government Focusing on Human Resource Development

President Joko Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla held a plenary cabinet session along with all the ranks at the State Palace, Jakarta. Preparation of the Government Work Plan of 2019 is the main topic of discussion at this meeting.
To his ranks, the Head of State reminded that starting in 2019, the government should begin to focus on the development of human resources.
"The second stage after infrastructure development in our big work is human resource development and ministries should start designing what will be done in the great work of human resource development," he said on Monday, February 12, 2018.
In relation to Indonesia's growing economic momentum from 5.06% in the third quarter of 2017 to 5.19% in the fourth quarter, the President also hopes that this performance and momentum can be maintained.
Similarly, household consumption is expected to improve in line with the implementation of cash-intensive programs that have been rolled out in some areas.
Furthermore, the President again conveyed to his staff that the key to driving economic growth to be more enhanced is to increase investment and exports. To that end, the government should try its efforts to improve the ease investment climate from central to regional levels.
"We're in a pace with other countries that are taking steps almost as much as we are.If we're late, we're left behind and investment will shift to other countries that offer better climate whereas we need new jobs to overcome unemployment, "he said.
In addition, the President said that exports contribute 20.37% of GDP. Therefore, to increase exports, the Head of State instructed the line-up to produce breakthrough measures. One of them is to accelerate the resolution of barriers experienced by exporters.
"We also have to start involving business actors and SOEs to work on non-traditional export markets, the ambassadors, consul generals, and trade attaches must also strengthen our economic and economic intelligence diplomacy so that they will become the spearhead of promotion, promotion space and see export opportunities, " he continued.
As his last directive, President Joko Widodo warned his staff to immediately complete unfinished national strategic projects in 2017. For a number of national strategic projects that will begin in 2018, he requested his staff to provide certainty of the execution in the field.
