Voice of Indonesia presents “Let’s Speak Bahasa Indonesia,” a lesson in the Indonesian language on the Radio. We introduce some Indonesian vocabulary and tips on how to use it in a conversation. This segment is a joint initiative of Voice of Indonesia and the Language and Book Development Agency of the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture.  Today’s topic is Anda Berasal dari mana?  (Where do you come from?).

Read to this conversation about Anda Berasal dari mana?  (Where do you come from?). Kevin asks pak Hasan and his wife (Rama’s parents) about their origin. Rama’s father is Betawinese and his mother is Sundanese.

If you want to ask someone’s origin, you can use a question Asli orang mana? Which means ‘Originally, where are you from?’. In the dialogue, Kevin asks the origin of pak Hasan by using a sentence: Asli  orang mana, Pak ? which means ‘Originally, where are you from, pak?. You also can change the question with an expression Asli  orang mana? becomes Asli dari mana? which means ‘Originally, where are you from?’.

For example:

-Kalau ibu Rama asli mana, Pak ? which means ‘Where is Rama’s mother from, pak?

In addition, you also can use the question Bapak orang Sunda, ya? Which means ‘are you Sundanese’?

The question, asli mana? Which means ‘Originally, where are you from?’, is used to ask not only about ethnic of someone, but also about place of origin. Place of origin can also means hometown, place of childhood and residence.

Bogor called a city of rain is a city whose location is not far from Jakarta. The city is also visited by many domestic and foreign tourists.  If you travel to this city, please stop over to taste the local culinary. One of them is Mie Kocok. It is a noodle dish with beef broth flavor. The term “Kocok” which means shaking in the name of the dish refers to the cooking process in which it is to beat the noodles in a hollow metal container with handles, while dipping them in hot water. The type of noodle used is a flat yellow one whose texture is softer.

Mie Kocok is made from noodles, beef broth and beef gravel. However, there are several variations in its serving with the addition of certain food ingredients.  For example, it is by adding chicken feet, beef, meatballs, and even beef tripe.  When served, a bowl of noodles is topped with celery slices, green onions, fried onions and lime juice. If you like spicy taste, you can add it with sauce or chili sauce.  It tastes so delicious and tasty.

Mie Kocok is very delicious when it is eaten warm. This dish is easy to find not only in Bogor City, but also Bandung City. The price is relatively cheap about Rp. 20,000 to Rp. 30,000/portion.  Usually, this dish is sold from afternoon until evening.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo urged that job creation and increasing household consumption through the development of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) have to receive special attention in the National Economic Recovery program. This was conveyed by President Joko Widodo when opening the Limited Meeting of the Committee for Handling Covid-19 and National Economic Recovery, at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta Monday (Nov23).

President Joko Widodo also said, budget realization of several programs has been implemented well, such as for salary subsidies has reached 82 percent, productive social assistance of president for providing capital to micro businesses has reached 79 percent. Nevertheless, the government encouraged that the realization of the budget continues to be increased so that it can help improving people's purchasing power. Previously, President Joko Widodo also stated that in the third quarter of 2020, the Indonesian economy had begun to recover and rise.

The President quoted data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) that the national economic growth in the third quarter grew minus 3.49 percent (year on year). This means that economic growth has increased by 1.83 percent in the third quarter compared to the second quarter. Nevertheless, President Joko Widoodo asked the ministers not to be satisfied with these positive symptoms.

The government still has to work hard to create jobs and increase the development of MSMEs on a large scale in order to be able to compete in the global market. On the other hand, the President wants a strategy to regulate balance between handling health and economic recovery. President Joko Widodo also assessed that the results of the efforts so far have begun to appear, especially in controlling COVID-19 and economic recovery. As of November 22, 2020, the average active case of COVID-19 throughout Indonesia was 12.78 percent. This figure is lower than the world average of active cases, which is 28.41 percent.

Indonesian language becomes the second study program of foreign language at Hefei University

Indonesian language becomes the second study program of foreign language after English at Hefei University of Technology (HUT), Hefei City, Anhui Province, China.  Education and Culture Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing, Yaya Sutarya stated that Indonesian language is selected by the   rectorate of the university after conducting several studies. At the first batch of graduation, there are 40 university students from the study program at the university. Moreover, he also said that his side would help Hefei University of Technology (HUT) get partners from several universities in Indonesia.

The Indonesian Embassy in Beijing will also provide curriculum and modules as well as guidance so that it is not left far behind with the 17 other universities in China that previously opened study programs of Indonesian language. Hefei University of Technology (HUT) is one of the best universities in China with a background in scientific disciplines and technology. It is the same as several other universities in China, the Indonesian language study program at Hefei University of Technology is for the undergraduate level.
