Australian Consul-General, Anthea Griffin, officially handed over 400,000 doses of canine rabies vaccine from the Australian Government to the Indonesian Government in Denpasar, Bali.

Director of Animal Health, Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Nuryani Zainuddin, said the Indonesian health authorities deserved thumbs up. “Our animal health authorities coordinated efforts to use Indonesia's vaccine supply to vaccinate over 89,000 dogs in 7 weeks in the Bali and West Timor outbreak areas,” said Dr Nuryani Zainuddin.

“Close partnership with Australia in animal health has supported Indonesia's coordinated efforts to control the disease. this and prevent the spread of rabies.”

“Australia is proud to support Indonesia's rabies response, which targets immediate rabies outbreaks,” said Consul General Anthea Griffin.

“I congratulate the local health services for their excellent job coordinating the emergency response. Canine vaccination saves human lives, and community participation is essential in controlling canine rabies everywhere.”

According to a release received by Voice of Indonesia in Jakarta on Tuesday, of the 400,000 doses of vaccine, 200,000 doses were rolled out in Bali, with another 200,000 used to fight an emergency rabies outbreak in West Timor, where vaccine administration began on 20 July 2023.

Australia's Chief Veterinary Officer, Dr Mark Schipp, said Australia's cooperation with Indonesia on rabies not only supports friends and neighbours, but also helps stop the spread of rabies in the region.

“More than 99 percent of rabies cases in humans are caused by bites or scratches from infected dogs. Rabies is 100% preventable through routine vaccination of dogs, preventing transmission to humans—especially children which causes more than 40 percent of deaths from rabies,” said Dr Schipp.

Australia is partnering with the World Organization for Animal Health, and the bilateral Australia Indonesia Health Security Partnership to support the Government of Indonesia's response to controlling rabies.

Australia's vaccines further strengthen its support for rabies control in the region, and its commitment to global eradication of the disease by 2030//VOI

Indonesia Sustainability Forum e-flyer - 

 

In line with the theme of Indonesia's Independence Day this year, "Keep Moving Forward Indonesia", the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko Marves) is ready to bring up the importance of international collaboration to boost the world's sustainable growth at the Indonesia Sustainability Forum (ISF) on 7-8 September 2023 coming.

The Indonesia Sustainability Forum is also part of the 2023 ASEAN-BAC Indonesia Summit which will be held on 1-8 September 2023.

“The ISF event is one of Indonesia's concrete manifestations as a climate superpower to strengthen cross-country collaboration, as well as public and private partnerships for the realization of the world's Sustainability agenda. We must be able to accelerate the transition of emissions-based growth towards sustainable growth that benefits humans and the environment, in a definite and careful manner," said the Deputy for Transportation and Infrastructure of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Rachmat Kaimuddin.

According to a release received by Voice of Indonesia in Jakarta on Tuesday, ISF is also a momentum for Indonesia to push for global decarbonization and spur world sustainability practices, Deputy Rachmat added.

In the business sector, Arsjad Rasjid as Chair of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia) and Chair of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) revealed that the business world has a crucial role to play in creating a sustainable business ecosystem in a green economy transition.

“The business world has an important responsibility in establishing a sustainable business ecosystem on the way to a green economy. We are actively promoting initiatives such as the Net Zero Hub and the Carbon Center of Excellence including the mobilization of green investment through cross-sectoral collaboration both in Indonesia and in Southeast Asia. It is hoped that through this initiative, the industrial and business sectors in Indonesia and ASEAN can unite to achieve sustainable development that is inclusive and conducive," said Arsjad.

In addition to international figures, ISF will also provide a platform for Indonesian business actors and academics to express their opinions and aspirations in facing the challenges of achieving sustainable growth that is more in harmony with environmental protection.

The event with the big theme "Pursuing Sustainable and Inclusive Growth" has also partnered with several global institutions as Knowledge Partners, including the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, McKinsey and global business players such as AstraZeneca.

After a talkshow entitled "121 Years of Bung Hatta: Rising Together with Inclusive Literacy" - 

 

 

The Head of the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia (Perpusnas) invites all people, especially the younger generation, to continue to inflame Bung Hatta's literacy spirit. Even in the midst of various limitations, even when he was behind bars in prison, Bung Hatta continued to read.

“Indonesia stands for the struggle of people who love reading. While other countries are busy arming themselves, our heroes are busy gaining knowledge by reading. The spirit of Bung Hatta who likes to read is a big asset for our nation and we must emulate it," he said when opening a talkshow entitled "121 Years of Bung Hatta: Rising Together with Inclusive Literacy", Tuesday (15/8/2023).

This activity is one of a series of 121 year commemorations of Bung Hatta held by National Library of Indonesia's Bung Hatta Proclamation Library UPT in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra Province.

According to the Head of National Library, Bung Hatta's fighting spirit which continues to be inflamed will encourage people to continue working through innovation and creativity.

However, the Head of National Library added, the enthusiasm of the current young generation to be literate is not as strong as Bung Hatta. "Even though literacy is a way for people to contribute to the progress of the nation," he emphasized.

According to the Head of National Library of Indonesia, literacy is the depth of one's knowledge of certain knowledge subjects that can be implemented with innovation and creativity to produce goods and services to win global competition.

On the same occasion, the UPT Library of Bung Hatta Proclamation also launched a book entitled "Anthology of Poetry for Hatta: Framing Bung Hatta in Poetry".

This book is the result of Bung Hatta's Poetry Writing Workshop which is part of the implementation of the Social Inclusion-Based Library Program.

The City Government of Bukittinggi through the Expert Staff of the Mayor of Bukittinggi, Melfi Abra, explained the efforts to be made in developing the people's economy in Bung Hatta's hometown.

According to a release received by Voice of Indonesia in Jakarta on Tuesday, Melfi revealed, through the good values ​​passed down by Bung Hatta, the City Government of Bukittinggi will encourage the younger generation to contribute to empowering the community's economy.

"The Bukittinggi City Government will make this city a Cultural Heritage City of Bung Hatta so that tourists who come to the City of Bukittinggi will get to know Bung Hatta and his personality," he explained.

Melfi also explained, to advance the economy of Bukittingi City, a sharia cooperative-based joint business would be developed.
On the other hand, Halida Halida Nuriah Hatta, Bung Hatta's third daughter, who was present as a guest speaker, revealed that Bung Hatta also spread the spirit of literacy through reading, starting with his own family.

He and his 2 brothers were invited and made interested in reading books through the collection of books owned by Bung Hatta.

"As Bung Hatta's generation, we must maintain a critical culture and also read. We must have a strong determination to jointly realize the ideals of the nation," he added.

BRIDGE Program - 

 

Ten Indonesian schools joined the Australia-Indonesia BRIDGE School Partnership Program at an agreement signing event in Jakarta today, and will be connecting soon with partner schools in Australia. BRIDGE Program (Building Relationships through Intercultural Dialogue and Growing Engagement) aims to build relationships between schools and the Indonesian school community and Australia, as well as providing access to new knowledge and skills for teachers Indonesia and Australia are participating. 

BRIDGE has been running for 15 years and has so far formed 210 partnerships Indonesian - Australian school. Two selected teachers from each of Indonesia's new BRIDGE schools will have the opportunity to experience visiting schools and living with their partner teachers in Australia.

"I'm sure educators will take advantage of this unique opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge exchange with their Australian counterparts via participation in the BRIDGE program," said the Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Penny Williams PSM. 

Nicola Campion, Media Counselor, Public Diplomacy, Scholarship and Alumni from the Embassy Australia in Jakarta, who attended the event, congratulated the heads schools from selected schools to be part of a wider BRIDGE community wide.
