Indonesian national literacy meeting -
Literacy is important to talk about because it is closely related to well-being.
It means the depth of one's knowledge that can be implemented to produce goods and services so that they can be used to win global competition, making literacy belongs to individuals, not institutions.
President Joko Widodo's mandate to improve the quality of Indonesia's Human Resources (HR) must reach up to the fifth literacy level, namely producing goods and services. Therefore, most Indonesians who do not have the opportunity to complete formal basic education need assistance from the library.
"Libraries must provide assistance to those who have not graduated from school with training provided directly or through books of applied sciences," said the Head of the National Library of Indonesia (NLI) in his remarks at the National Library of Indonesia National Stakeholders Meeting in 2022 at the Grand Mercure Harmoni Hotel, Thursday (20/10/2022).
The ability to produce goods and services supports government programs in the success of community-owned Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Syarif Bando added that the National Library of Indonesia is currently trying to produce 3 (three) contents which are planned to be launched to the public in early 2023.
“The information needed by the community will later be facilitated by the contents produced by the National Library. Indonesia must wake up with its works starting from the home industry," he said.
In his report, Plt. Deputy for Library Resource Development, Deni Kurniadi said the role of regional stakeholders, as well as the commitment of regional leaders are very important in encouraging the success of the Social Inclusion-Based Library Transformation program as a National Priority program down to the village level.
"Support from regional leaders and stakeholders can accelerate the mobilization of policies, human resources, and budgets for sustainable library transformation," he explained
Team Leader Consultant Assistance Program from PT. Markplus Inc., Erlyn Sulistyaningsih explained that his party built a Laplit portal (Lapak Production Literacy) which serves to promote that libraries can help people to have businesses.
"Literacy for welfare is the program and in fact many people struggle to come to the library to open a business," he said.
Meanwhile, the Director of Religion, Education and Culture of the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas RI, Amich Alhumami emphasized that in order to advance the community as reflected in the country's economic development, there must be a serious emphasis on improving human resources with literacy.
"It is impossible for a person to be empowered, to be capable, one must have access to sources of knowledge to learn and seek information," he stressed.
On the same occasion, the Director of Synchronization of Regional Government Affairs IV of the Indonesian Ministry of Home Affairs, Zanariah, stated that a program in government must have a leading sector. As with the Social Inclusion-Based Library Transformation program, National Library has become a leading sector. However, to be able to implement it in the regions there must be collaboration with other parties.
"There is no single program that can be carried out alone, but requires collaboration with other parties," he explained.
According to a release received by Voice of Indonesia on Thursday, the Head of the Planning and Finance Bureau of the National Library of Indonesia, Joko Santoso, explained that the importance of literacy is very closely related to improving the quality of human resources, to ultimately provide welfare to the community. He also emphasized that the library is a public space that allows people to share experiences and practice skills. So, when viewed from the benefits of the program, National Library will encourage local governments with similar programs for the coming years.
"With the holding of various kinds of activities that are needed by the community, the context of the library as a necessity in the community will increase," he said.
Sukabumi City Literacy Activator, Putri Wardhani said that in the Cisarua Urban Village library there are 2 (two) types of services, namely the main service and the service for community empowerment activities. In service, community empowerment activities are divided into fields including education, health, and economy.
"For example, in the field of education, we hold foreign language learning classes, because having the ability to speak a foreign language will definitely make people have more value and of course help to improve the welfare of the people of Sukabumi city," he said.
Similarly, Miss Indonesia 2015, Maria Harfanti also shared that she built the Bangun Sekolah Foundation with a passion to improve the quality of education in underdeveloped areas. The 2 (two) main programs developed by this foundation are the introduction of technology and character building training. However, it was not all done alone but in collaboration with other parties.
“We have regular donors and also collaborate with other parties. The point is that we do not walk alone and continue to build collaborations and synergize with many parties,” he concluded//VOI
Opening the Community Literacy Index Improvement (PILM) activity which was held at the JM Tanjung Pura Islamic High School (STAI) -
Intelligence does not have to be acquired through school. All good things can be used as a way to achieve intelligence, including through libraries. However, to form a superior human being, a reading culture is needed.
This was conveyed by the Acting Deputy for Library Resource Development of the National Library of Indonesia, Deni Kurniadi, when opening the Community Literacy Index Improvement (PILM) activity which was held at the JM Tanjung Pura Islamic High School (STAI), Thursday (29/9/2022) .
Building superior human resources (HR) is part of the vision for the realization of an Advanced Indonesia. The direction to get there is not easy. The community needs to be invited to have a reading culture in order to be able to improve the quality of their literacy.
“The current era of disruption requires humans to think creatively and be full of innovation. The origin of this thinking ability begins with a strong willingness to read. Without a strong reading, anyone will not have the power to think. The war of thought is far more powerful than the physical war," said Deputy Deni Kurniadi.
Libraries as the epicenter of science, of course, have a crucial role for the progress of society. The presence of the library is no longer just a place to read, but also to practice skills, develop self-potential, "explained Deni.
According to a release received by Voice of Indonesia on Thursday, Member of Commission X DPR RI, Djohar Arifin Husin added that the interest in reading in the community, especially children, must also be fought for by educators. School institutions are expected to synergize with libraries in fostering a reading culture. This action, Djohar feels will help the development of Indonesian people.
"I recommend giving them homework in the form of memorization. Ask them to read books. So that later they will enjoy reading, until it becomes a hobby," he explained.
Assistant III for the General Administration of Langkat Regency, Musti Sitepu, said that in an effort to educate the lives of the nation's children as mandated in the 1945 Constitution, make libraries as a vehicle for lifelong learning, a forum for developing community potential, so that they are responsible for supporting the implementation of national education.
"Libraries are required to be able to transform and innovate in order to be able to provide the maximum benefit to the community," concluded Sitepu.

The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy/Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Kemenparekraf/Baparekraf) continues to strive to increase foreign tourist arrivals, especially Australia as one of the potential market countries. One of these efforts was carried out by facilitating 18 hotel and resort industry players to carry out sales missions to Australia on August 22-25 2023.
The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of the Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Menparekraf/Kabaparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno in his statement, in Jakarta (19/9/2022), said the demand or demand for Australian tourists to Bali was very high. This is supported by the easing of most travel requirements, the implementation of improved health and safety standards, new tourism product offerings, and increased efforts to amplify the uniqueness of Balinese culture.
"Kemenparekraf is committed to maximizing the potential of Australian tourists to boost economic revival," said Sandiaga.
The Australian Sales Mission takes the theme #ItsTimeforBali and Explore Beyond Bali. There are several series of activities in the Australian Sales Mission including one on one business meeting, table top meeting, sales call in two cities namely Melbourne and Sydney.
In the table top meeting, Indonesian tourism industry players (sellers) have made presentations and built a network with 150 agents and retailers (buyers) from four main wholesalers in Australia, namely Flight Centre, Helloworld, Bali Tours, and Hoot Holidays.
In addition, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy takes this opportunity to network with other key industry players, namely wholesalers for middle-ups, namely Luxury Escapes and Ignite Holidays, mass customers such as Flight Centre, as well as airlines Virgin Australia and Garuda Indonesia.
This activity was carried out with the mission of increasing the Wonderful Indonesia brand to remain the top of mind for foreign tourists around the world, especially the Australian market.
"Although Bali has become the top of mind for foreign tourists, Indonesia still has many more destinations that are no less amazing than Bali. Call it the natural and cultural beauty in five super priority tourism destinations, namely Borobudur, Likupang, Mandalika, Labuan Bajo, and Lake Toba. which is so magestic," said the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy.
According to a release received by Voice of Indonesia on Monday, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is taking advantage of this tourism revival momentum by introducing three additional destinations, or 'add-ons', in plans for the next Australian tourist vacation to Bali.
First is Labuan Bajo, a coastal city that is the gateway to Komodo National Park, which can be reached by a 90-minute flight from Denpasar. Labuan Bajo has a myriad of amazing allures with Padar Island which is the icon of Labuan Bajo, then Taka Makassar and Kanawa Island which has a very charming underwater beauty.
The second is Lombok, an alternative for those seeking tranquility and a comfortable family vacation by the beach which can be reached by 90 minutes fast boat or 40 minutes flight from Denpasar.
And finally, Borobudur, a paradise for history and culture lovers that can be combined with a day trip to Yogyakarta, the city that is the soul of Javanese culture. Borobudur is a combination of tropical vacation and anti-mainstream culture. This destination can be reached only by a 90-minute flight to Yogyakarta.
In 2019, before the pandemic hit, as many as 1.4 million foreign tourists from Australia visited Indonesia, of which 1.2 million or around 85 percent visited Bali. Of the number who visited Bali, only 16 percent traveled beyond Bali.
Since the pandemic conditions improved and international travel re-opened in March 2022, the number of Australian foreign tourists visiting Indonesia has continued to experience a significant increase, reaching 118,347 visits from January to June 2022.
"Through this sales mission, it is expected to be able to bring in 3.6 million tourists with an income equivalent to US$1.7 billion," said Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga//VOI
