North Sulawesi's Melonguane hit by 5.5-magnitude quake

An earthquake of magnitude 5.5 rattled northwest of Melonguane, Talaud Islands, North Sulawesi, early on Tuesday, though no tsunami warning was issued, according to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

The quake, which struck at 00:25:57 Western Indonesia Time (WIB), was centered 185 kilometers northwest of Melonguane, at a depth of 185 kilometers, the BMKG noted on its official website.

The quake was not significant enough to cause a tsunami. However, the BMKG has warned of potential aftershocks following the quake.
