Indonesia has again received five million doses of  Sinovac vaccine in finished form under the 70th batch of vaccine arrival on Monday.

"This vaccine supply has brought the availability of COVID-19 vaccines in Indonesia, both in the form of raw materials (bulk) and ready-to-use, to 262,350,400 doses," spokesperson for vaccination of the Indonesian Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, noted in a written statement received here.

Tarmizi remarked that with this 70th stage of vaccine arrival, the number of vaccine doses of Sinovac's CoronaVac in Indonesia had increased to reach a total of 53,776,000.

"This number will continue to increase since on Tuesday (September 21), we will receive another five million vaccine doses of the same brand," she noted.

In line with the government's commitment to expediting the national vaccination program, she noted that the received vaccine doses will be distributed to various regions across the country for immediate use.

“In the next few weeks, we will receive more batches of vaccine doses. This is the government's effort to prevent a vaccine shortage from occurring in our country," she stated.

In spite of the increased availability of vaccines, the spokesperson emphasized that the third dose or booster vaccine is only designated for healthcare workers, as they have a greater risk of being exposed to the virus.

Hence, Tarmizi appealed to the public that if vaccinators were available to offer the third dose of the vaccine to people apart from health workers, then they should immediately report it to the authorities.

Regarding the distribution of vaccines, the corporate secretary and spokesperson for Bio Farma, Bambang Heriyanto, stated that as of September 19, 2021, Bio Farma had distributed 169,114,468 doses of the vaccine to various regions in Indonesia. (Anatranews)
