LIPI to be the Host of the 30th Session of ICC MAB UNESCO Meeting 2018

Indonesia will be the host of the 30th Session of the International Coordinating Council –ICC of the Man and the Biosphere Program (MAB) UNESCO in Palembang, South Sumatera on July 23 – 28, 2018. It is the program of MAB UNESCO that discusses about biosphere conservation management as the sustainable development. It was said by the Head of National committee of MAB UNESCO, Enny Sudarmonowati at the Launching of the 30th Session of the ICC MAB UNESCO at LIPI Auditorium  in  Jakarta on Monday (14/05).

“ICC MAB UNESCO Meeting 2018 will be held in Palembang Indonesia. We must play the role because Indonesia is included as the richest biodiversity country, Man of the Biosphere and cultural rich country. We must also submit a recommendation namely Palembang Recommendation. So, the result of the meeting will be referred by the world,” Enny Sudarmonowati said.

Enny Sudarmonowati who also serves as Deputy of Biodiversity Sciences of LIPI explained that currently there are 669 biospheres spread in 120 countries. Indonesia has 11 biosphere conservations and propose 3 nominees of biosphere conservation, namely Berbak Sembilang in South Sumatera Selatan, Betung Kerihun Danau Sentarum in West Kalimantan  and Rinjani Lombok in Nusa Tenggara Barat. Enny also hoped those biosphere conservation can be approved and stipulated by UNESCO at the 30th session of ICC MAB UNESCO in Palembang in Juli 2018. (VOI/AF/NT)
