On Thursday (14/6), European commission has updated EU Air Safety List on a list of airlines that do not meet the international safety standards. Thus, the airlines may not operate in European Union territory. Based on the newest list, 55 Indonesian airlines that were on the old list, have been issued from list of flight restrictions in European Union. The revocation was the result of collaboration which was very long among diplomacy, regulatory improvement and Indonesian flight safety standard which have been begun since 2007. Since 2007, European Union imposed a ban for Indonesian airlines to operate from and to the territory of European Union. In 2009 until 2011, gradually Indonesian airlines were revoked from the restriction list, namely Garuda Indonesia, Indonesia Air Asia, Airfast Indonesia, and Ekspres Transportasi Antarbenua. Meanwhile, in 2016, 3 Indonesian airlines were also issued from the restriction list, namely Lion Air, Batik Air, and Citilink. The development has chance to increase national and international trust on Indonesian airlines’ industry, to facilitate, to enhance tourism industry more solidly, and to open up opportunities for the development of the national aviation industry to Europe.
