The public library of HB Jassin in Gorontalo -
The Head of the National Library of Indonesia, Muhammad Syarif Bando, together with the Governor of Gorontalo, Rusli Habibie inaugurated the Gorontalo public library service building on Monday (21/02/22).
The Public Library Service (LPU), named H.B Jassin, received special allocation funds (DAK) for physical education in the library sub-sector for building expansion from the central government worth Rp. 4.2 billion.
The head of the National Library said that the National Library would continue to provide support to the regions in an effort to increase human resources (HR). This is stated in the elaboration of President Joko Widodo's vision of improving the quality of human resources and developing superior human beings in 2020-2024.
"Of course we prioritize the Gorontalo Provincial Government, as a form of responding to the Governor's commitment to focus on efforts to improve the quality of human resources," said Syarif at the inauguration of the building coupled with the webinar on Improving the Public Literacy Index for Welfare on Monday (21/2/2022).
He explained, improving the quality of human resources is very important. In the future, the challenge to be faced is to ensure the availability of reading materials in the community is sufficient. Both reading materials that are in accordance with real conditions in society, as well as applied science books.
According to a Press Release received by Voice of Indonesia on Monday (21/02/22), currently, National Library has transformed into a digital library. This is to make it easier for the public to access reading material through an application that has been provided, namely iPusnas or e-Resources which provides scientific journals online.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Gorontalo said the exchange of information had developed rapidly. Now, people can search for information digitally. He hopes that regional libraries can transform digitally in meeting the reading needs and interests of the community.
"We have to follow developments in the current digital era, now school children no longer need to come to the library, they just need to open their gadgets and they can read," he said.
On the same occasion, the Head of the National Library of Indonesia symbolically handed over the assistance of a mobile library car to the Governor of Gorontalo. In addition, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the National Library of Indonesia and the Gorontalo Provincial Government. The National Library of Indonesia also signed a memorandum of understanding with eight universities, namely IAIN Sultan Amai Gorontalo, Gorontalo Muhammadiyah University, Bina Mandiri University Gorontalo, Gorontalo University, Bina Taruna University Gorontalo, Nahdlatul Ulama University Gorontalo, Ichsan University Gorontalo, and Gorontalo Polytechnic//VOI-NK
