Menparekraf Meets with the Indonesian Ambassador to China, Discuss Opportunities for Cooperation in the Tourism Sector

The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of the Tourism and Creative Economy Agency, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, held a meeting with the Indonesian Ambassador to the People's Republic of China, Djauhari Oratmangun, at the Sapta Pesona Building, Jakarta, Monday (28/3/2022). In the meeting, the two discussed to reopen opportunities or potential for cooperation in the tourism and creative economy sectors.

The cooperation opportunities include sharing best practices carried out by the two countries in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, sharing potential investors to invest in Indonesia, especially in five super priority destinations and in eight Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in Indonesia, as well as increasing the presence of restaurants. "Later, we will try to map it out with the ranks at Kemenparekraf for steps we can take so that before they open, how do we anticipate with promotional activities, activation, as well as in terms of investment activities," said the Menparekraf.

As is known, China is implementing the Zero COVID-19 Policy to overcome the pandemic in its country. Chinese people have not been able to travel abroad, because their border gate has not been opened.

According to a release received by Voice of Indonesia on Tuesday (29/03/22), the Ministry initiated cooperation in the form of joint promotions in Mandarin, so that it is not only related to Chinese New Year greetings, but also tourism promotion materials and other creative economies. Thus, the reach of the Chinese market can be wider and more targeted.

“I am very happy to do promotions using Mandarin. Because I think this is the most effective marketing strategy to reach them (Chinese tourists),” he said.

The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy also encouraged the Indonesian Ambassador to China to participate in supporting the achievement of tourist segmentation that is more directed towards quality tourism and sustainable tourism.
“The pandemic has definitely changed the behavior of tourists, they are really looking for safe and comfortable tourist destinations. I really hope that through this collaboration we can lead to ecotourism, tourist villages, to marine tourism because they (tourists) really like it," said Sandiaga Uno.

On that occasion, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy asked for the support of the PRC Government in the success of international activities, namely the World Tourism Day 2022 and also the G20, because this year Indonesia was lined up as the host.

"I hereby support tourists from China as well as investors and entrepreneurs to work together with Indonesia in opening up *re-open* business opportunities and employment opportunities for the revival of our economy. I invite the Ambassador and, of course, under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Jokowi, to collaborate in developing a new economic order," said the Menparekraf.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the People's Republic of China, Djauhari Oratmangun, expressed his gratitude for being invited to discuss the potential for collaboration. He also agreed with the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy that it is not only the number that is the focus of our cooperation but the quality of the tourists visiting Indonesia//VOI
