With the selection of Labuan Bajo as one of the G20 Side Event venues, more and more eyes are looking at Labuan Bajo in particular and East Nusa Tenggara in general. Labuan Bajo is no longer just a vacation spot, but also a place for holding various national and international meetings, and other activities.

As a continuation after previously successfully hosting Asia International Water Week (AIWW) last March, Labuan Bajo again hosted the G20 side event. From 10 to 11 May 2022, "The 1st Tourism Working Group (1st TWG)" will be held in a hybrid manner at Sudamala Resort Labuan Bajo. The main issue that will be discussed at TWG 1 this time is the strengthening of the community as agents of change for a more quality and sustainable tourism transformation centered on the five pillars of action, so that the recovery and revival of the tourism sector and the creative economy after the COVID-19 pandemic can be felt by the community.

As a work unit under the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf), the Implementing Agency for the Labuan Bajo Flores Authority (BPOLBF) continues to coordinate with relevant ministries and institutions to make the G20 side event successful, especially TWG 1. According to a release received by Voice of Indonesia on Wednesday, Frans Xaverius Teguh, Plt. Deputy for Resources and Institutions Kemenparekraf/Baparekraf said that BPOLBF coordinated with related ministries/agencies to complete several developments in order to make the G20 implementation a success.

“Kemenparekraf/Baparekraf together with the central government continue to supervise the locations supporting the implementation of the G20 event, one of which is in Labuan Bajo. BPOLBF together with ministries, institutions and stakeholders have completed the development of Waterfront City in Labuan Bajo, to support the implementation of TWG 1," said Fransiskus.

The President Director of BPOLBF, Shana Fatina also said that the holding of TWG 1 Labuan Bajo is proof that Labuan Bajo is ready to welcome other international events in the future.

"Labuan Bajo has become a venue for international events, this indirectly informs the public that Labuan Bajo is ready to welcome international events so that other big events can of course be held in Labuan Bajo," said Shana Fatina.

Shana also continued that Labuan Bajo, with its sustainable and community-based tourism, is ready and able to host various other world-class events, especially after the pandemic.

"The trend of tourism after the pandemic is sustainable tourism, community-based, and this is something that has been pioneered and done for the last 3 years, how tourism is no longer oriented to quantity but also quality, tourist satisfaction and the community itself," explained Shana.

Shana said that Labuan Bajo was ready to welcome these international events and other international events in the future and that BPOLBF was present as a representative of the central government in the regions which orchestrated all interests in building sustainable and competitive Labuan Bajo tourism//VOI
