Indonesian foreign minister, Retno Marsudi view the opening ceremony of GPDRR venue -

Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi led the final preparation for the opening ceremony of the 7th Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GP2022) at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Centre, on Tuesday, May 24.

"GP2022 is the first GPDRR to take place in Asia, advancing the theme of “From Risk to Resilience: Towards Sustainable Development for All in a COVID-19 Transformed World,” Minister Retno told reporters.

According to a release received by Voice of Indonesia on Wednesday (25/05/22), to date, 6,000 participants from 183 countries have registered to join GP2022. Although the meetings are the hybrid ones, more than 80% of the participants will attend the events in person. This overwhelming number reaffirms Indonesia’s leadership on disaster knowledge not only in Southeast Asia and Asia-Pacific, but also in the world.

GPDRR also lends Indonesia a great opportunity to showcase its soft diplomacy on disaster management agenda in the post COVID-19 world.

"Being selected as the GP2022 host reflects enormous trusts from the international community in Indonesia’s leadership on disaster knowledge. It is also a testament of how Indonesia champions disaster agenda. We can harness this platform to continuously exchange experiences and best practices,” Minister Retno concluded.

GP2022 is the right platform to enable practical DRR cooperation across multi-stakeholders in achieving sustainable resilience. This is reflected by the composition of participants attending the event: 24% from the non-governmental organizations, 20% from the governmental actors, 11% from academic institutions, and 7% from private sectors.

During this event, Minister Retno will hold bilateral meetings with Mr. Abdulla Shahid, the President of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, and Ms. Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations//VOI
