Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) discussed comprehensively about food and fertilizers at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin, Moscow, Russia, on Thursday.

"I had a lot of discussions and emphasized that food and fertilizer were humanitarian issues, which were in the interests of the world community," President Jokowi noted in a press statement with Putin broadcast live and was monitored in Jakarta on Thursday night.

Jokowi remarked that hundreds of millions of people, especially in developing countries, were affected by the disruption of food and fertilizer supply chains.

"I really appreciate President Putin, who said earlier that he guaranteed the security of food and fertilizer supplies, both from Russia and from Ukraine. This is good news," President Jokowi stated.

President Jokowi supports the United Nations' efforts for the reintegration of Russian food and fertilizer commodities and Ukrainian food commodities to re-enter the world supply chain.

"Especially for the export route for Ukrainian food products, especially through the sea route, President Putin once again gave his guarantee," Jokowi noted.

The main objective of Jokowi's meeting with Putin is to bring peace missions to Russia and Ukraine.

On the occasion, Jokowi also conveyed a message from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Putin and stated his readiness to become a communication bridge for the leaders of the two countries.

"For closing, I can say that Indonesia has no interest, except to see that the war can be ended soon and the food and fertilizer supply chain can be repaired because this involves the lives of hundreds of millions of people, even billions of people," Jokowi affirmed.

Jokowi invited all world leaders to work together to revive the spirit of multilateralism, peace, and cooperation.

"Only with that spirit can peace be achieved," President Jokowi affirmed.

Indonesian First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo earlier handed over medicine assistance to the Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Center of Endocrine Surgery, Transplantation of Endocrine Organs and Tissues in Kyiv, Ukraine, on Wednesday.

She handed over the aid while visiting the hospital with President Jokowi after observing an apartment complex damaged in the Russia-Ukraine conflict in Irpin City, which is located to the west of Kyiv.

"Mr. Jokowi and I gave some assistance to the hospital which had been affected by the war," she said after handing the aid, according to a statement received here on Wednesday.

She expressed hope that the conflict would end soon. The first lady said she felt saddened to see the impact of the war.

"By saying basmalah (in the name of God), I am accompanying Mr. President here,” she remarked.

The Indonesian government also provided additional aid to Ukraine through the Ukrainian Red Cross and expressed its commitment to assisting in reconstructing war-damaged hospitals.

Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi conveyed this statement on a separate occasion.  (Antaranews)
