The Secretary General of the Indonesian Farmers' Association (HKTI) Sadar Subagyo said that the increase in wheat prices was due to climate change. This causes wheat production to decrease.

He emphasized that the increase was not due to the war between Russia and Ukraine. This is because the increase in wheat prices also occurred in 2008-2009.

"We import a little from Ukraine, so don't let an event that has a slight impact continue to be drawn here. Because wheat production in the world is decreasing due to climate change factors," said Sadar in the RRI Pro3 dialogue, Thursday (11/8/2022).

"In America it goes down, India goes down. The war itself doesn't have a significant impact on Indonesia, except for Africa," he added.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Domestic Trade of the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) Syailendra ensured that the increase in the price of instant noodles would not exceed the standard. This is based on consideration of the selling price for instant noodle traders.

"One of the most important things is that it is impossible for them to increase prices until people don't want to buy. They are trying to make people's purchasing power affordable," said Syailendra, in the Pro3 RRI dialogue, Thursday (11/8/2022).

He explained that currently Indonesia is still importing wheat to meet the needs of nearly 6.96 million tons of wheat flour.

"Per year it is 25.4 kilograms per capita. Its composition for large and modern industries is only 29 percent, the rest is for MSMEs, 71 percent for households," he concluded. (RRI)
