Indonesia's sharia economy is making tremendous progress, off the halal value chain and continues to be on the path of recovery. This Islamic teaching-based economy is able to grow 3.9 percent per year in the first quarter of 2022.

The leading sectors of the sharia economy include agriculture, halal food, Muslim clothing, and Muslim-friendly tourism. These four sectors had previously grown 2.1 percent (yoy) in 2021.

The Governor of Bank Indonesia, Perry Warjiyo, acknowledged the development of the Islamic economy in Indonesia. "Sharia economy plays a bigger role in the recovery of the national economy," he told reporters, Wednesday (24/8/2022).

Furthermore, Perry said that the development of the Islamic economy in Indonesia and throughout the world is growing very rapidly. This makes a significant contribution to economic development in the country.

Sharia business in Indonesia also includes the growth of MSMEs and the economic development of Islamic boarding schools. There are at least 30 thousand Islamic boarding schools throughout Indonesia that have developed a sharia business model.

"They don't just support education," said the BI governor. "But it also opens up opportunities for students to learn and have experience in business and entrepreneurship," he said. (RRI)
