At the closing of the 77th Anniversary of Indonesia event from September 10 to 11 2022, the Indonesian Embassy in Antananarivo held a night market to promote Indonesian cuisine and culture to the people in Madagascar.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the people of Madagascar cannot visit Indonesia, but the Night Market brought Indonesia to Madagascar. That was stated by the Head of Indonesian Representative in Antananarivo, Benny Yan Pieter Siahaan. The event was welcomed enthusiastically by hundreds of visitors from many countries, such as Madagascar, Egypt, Uganda, Mali, Cameroon, China, USA, the Union of the Comoros, France, India, Germany, Belgium, Morocco, Russia, and Netherlands.
The Night Market presented 6 booths, such as Batik Chantique, Face Painting, as well as various Indonesian arts, handicrafts, and cuisines such as soto mie, bakso malang, chicken satay, and bajigur.
As the host of the Night Market, the leader of San Cristobal Hotel, Junior Rakotomalala felt honored to partner with the Mercure Hotel Alarobia and DWP of the Indonesian Embassy in Antananarivo, which prepared various Indonesian traditional foods. He was impressed by the foods that mostly used imported and authentic ingredients that are not available in Madagascar.
The Night Market was even more colorful with videos about Indonesian tourism, banners of Wonderful Indonesia and the 77th Indonesian Anniversary, photobooths, and banners of Trade Expo Indonesia to promote the international trade exhibition to be held in October 2022.
