First Lady Iriana Invites Partners to G20 Leaders to See Indonesian Local Wisdom

Mrs. Iriana Joko Widodo held a meeting with the world leaders partners of the G20 countries and international institutions as part of a series of activities at the G20 Summit at the Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort, on Tuesday, November 15 2022.

Mrs. Iriana, wearing Indonesian clothing which is combined with Balinese woven fabrics directly welcomes and shakes hands with the companions upon arrival at the arrival lobby.

One by one the companions arrived at the arrivals lobby at around 09.00 WITA, starting with Spanish President Madam Maria Begona Gomez Fernandez's companion, Turkish President Madam Emine Erdogan's companion, Japanese Prime Minister Madam Yuko Kishida's companion, European Commission President Heiko von der Leyen's companion, companion The President of the Republic of Korea Madam Kim Keon-hee, to the companion of the President of the People's Republic of China Madam Peng Liyuan.

After being greeted and shaking hands with Mrs. Iriana, the escorts headed to the waiting room that had been provided. In the waiting room, Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Mrs. Angela Herliani Tanoesoedibjo and Expert Staff for Social Culture and Empowerment of Indonesian Communities Overseas Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mrs. Siti Nugraha Mauludiah accompanied the companions while watching demonstrations of palm leaf crafts, the process of making batik, and the process weave.

"Welcome to Indonesia. I am happy to welcome you and your father on the island of Bali," said Ibu Iriana starting her remarks at the event.

Mrs. Iriana said that in this meeting the companions would be invited to see and experience a number of Indonesian local wisdoms, ranging from handicrafts to Indonesian specialties. Mrs. Iriana also explained one of the traditional musical instruments that was displayed to welcome the companions at the venue.

"This instrument called gamelan is an instrument made of environmentally friendly bamboo. The harmonious strains of this sound can bring us together as if we are one with nature and produce harmony. This harmony is the life of Indonesian people who are harmonious and tolerant amidst differences," said Mrs. Iriana.

Mrs. Iriana also hopes that the companions can enjoy a good time while in Bali so that they can extend their visit to Indonesia. "I'm sure you will fall in love with Indonesia and Bali," said Ibu Iriana.

Afterwards, Mrs. Iriana invited the companions to see various cultural-based activities from a number of regions in the country which were held in the backyard of the Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort. Among them are Mama Noken, gamelan music, Balinese Rindik music, Gondang Batak music, Peacock dance, Tor-tor dance, and children playing snakes and ladders games.

Apart from that, the assistants were also invited by Mrs. Iriana to see an exhibition of woven products and a number of micro, small and medium enterprise (MSMEs) products from various regions in Indonesia. The meeting was then closed with a luncheon with Mrs. Iriana with accompanying leaders of the G20 countries and international institutions. (VOI)
