Jakarta (voinews): The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture urges parents to oversee the development of their children's character in order to create a golden and quality generation.

"Parents must take care and oversee the development as well as changes in children's character," the ministry's deputy for coordinating education quality improvement and religious moderation, Warsito, stated in Jakarta, Tuesday.

Warsito also reminded that the school, family, and community play an important role in overseeing the character development of children.

"Apart from the family's role, the school and the environment must assist to oversee the formation and development of the children's character," he remarked.

He noted that the ministry has urged all parties to jointly strengthen character education in children to shape them to grow into individuals with noble character as well as make efforts to prevent children from becoming perpetrators of violence.

"Moreover, recently, news was circulating about teenagers being involved in violent act during Ramadan," Warsito pointed out.

He also stated that the ministry encourages the strengthening of good practices according to beliefs, especially during religious learning or character education building.

"This good practice is expected to continue to be followed in all processes in the field of learning," he stated.

Warsito also emphasized the importance of psychological assistance and positive dialogue to support children's growth and development.

"Psychological assistance by experts and also assistance by families can be one of the important keys in overseeing the formation of children's character," he stated.

In addition, he remarked that family communication has good benefits to help children to grow up with good manners and to not become perpetrators of violence.

This statement was made in the wake of a case of several teenagers in various areas that were arrested by the police for being involved in sarong brawls during Ramadan.

In fact, the incident in Palmerah, West Jakarta, on Thursday, March 23, resulted in the death of one person after being hit by a sharp weapon. (Antaranews)
