Australia and Indonesia launched the Indonesia-Australia Teacher Education Cooperation

VOInews, Jakarta : Australia and Indonesia launched the Indonesia-Australia Teacher Education Cooperation. This joint initiative will enhance the quality of the teacher workforce in Indonesia.

According to a release received by Voice of Indonesia in Jakarta on Tuesday September 24th 2024, the Cooperation brings together five Australian and ten Indonesian universities. The universities will work together on a range of education and research activities, and ensure Indonesian universities have the capabilities they need to train the next generation of high-quality teachers.

“I want to congratulate the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology on spearheading this initiative,” said Professor Jennifer Westacott AO, Australia’s Business Champion for Indonesia. 

“This Cooperation will support Indonesia’s ongoing efforts to ensure teachers are well-equipped to step into the classroom with confidence,” she said.

Professor Nunuk Suryani, Director General of Teacher and Education Personnel at the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology said, “The Indonesia-Australia Teacher Education Cooperation will serve as a platform for sharing knowledge and best practices in teacher education. Hopefully through this cooperation the quality of teacher education in Indonesia can be improved and will ultimately create a transformation in our educational landscape to deliver quality learning to Indonesian students,”.

“Education is a vital part of the Australia-Indonesia partnership, and this new initiative will strengthen our collaboration. By boosting teacher training cooperation between Australia and Indonesia, we can make a lasting impact on education quality and student learning outcomes,” said Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Penny Williams PSM.

The Indonesia-Australia Teacher Education Cooperation builds on the long-standing partnership between Indonesia and Australia that supports learning outcomes in Indonesian primary schools.

Australian members are Western Sydney University, Deakin University, Central Queensland University, the University of Adelaide and University of Newcastle.

Indonesian members are Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, Universitas Negeri Malang, Universitas Negeri Surabaya, Universitas Negeri Padang, Universitas Sanata Dharma, Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang, Universitas Sebelas Maret, Universitas Negeri Jakarta, Universitas Negeri Medan, and Universitas Negeri Manado//VOI
