VOINews, Jakarta: A United Arab Emirates (UAE) ship carrying 2,000 tons of emergency humanitarian aid arrived at the Port of Beirut to support the Lebanese people amidst intensified attacks from Israel. The vessel is part of a broader UAE humanitarian campaign, launched in early October under the directive of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, aimed at assisting Lebanon during the crisis.
According to UAE's official news agency, WAM, the latest shipment symbolizes the UAE’s solidarity with Lebanon during these challenging times. Sultan Al-Shamsi, UAE’s Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, emphasized that this humanitarian effort reflects the UAE's commitment to stand by Lebanon, especially amid such severe conditions.
“This latest support showcases the UAE’s solidarity with the Lebanese people during this difficult time,” Al-Shamsi stated. The ship reportedly transported 1,000 tons of food supplies and an additional 1,000 tons of shelter and emergency supplies, bringing the UAE’s total aid to Lebanon to 2,610 tons to date.
The escalating conflict began last month when Israel launched an extensive air campaign in Lebanon, citing Hezbollah targets. This cross-border tension comes in the wake of Israel’s intensified attacks in Gaza, which have led to a ripple effect throughout the region.
Lebanese health authorities report that over 2,600 people have lost their lives, with more than 12,200 wounded in the Israeli strikes since October of last year. The humanitarian crisis has worsened following Israel’s decision on October 1 to expand the conflict with ground operations in southern Lebanon, raising concerns over civilian safety and the region’s stability.
