The Consulate General of Indonesia in Jeddah promoted Indonesian contemporary art on the international stage by organizing artist talks and an art exhibition at Saalat Hayy, Hayy Jameel, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday (16/11).

Through an official statement received in Jakarta on Monday (18/11), the Consulate General stated that the art exhibition featured the work of Indonesian contemporary artist, Andry Boy Kurniawan. The event marked a milestone for Indonesia's art footprint in Saudi Arabia, as it was the first contemporary art exhibition featuring an Indonesian artist in Jeddah.

During the event, Boy Kurniawan shared insights into his creative journey, particularly how he integrates augmented reality technology into his paintings. This technology incorporates digital objects into the real world. The Yogyakarta-based artist revealed that he draws inspiration from the great characters that shape culture, both real and imaginative. His works often depict figures with large round heads and small sharp eyes, brought to life in his paintings. Distinctive elements of his work include shiny objects like jellies and gemstones that reflect light in unique and captivating ways.

Visitors were captivated by the interactive and immersive experience that combined traditional painting with cutting-edge augmented reality, offering a fresh and exciting way to experience art.

The Indonesian Consulate General in Jeddah highlighted that the exhibition demonstrates significant progress in the realm of Indonesian contemporary art and inspires new possibilities for painting in the digital era in Saudi Arabia. It also showcases the harmony between traditional art techniques and modern innovations, paving the way for creative breakthroughs in painting in the digital age.
