VOInews, Astana: Diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Kazakhstan, as well as Tajikistan, continue to see significant improvement. Indonesia’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, M. Fadjroel Rachman, highlighted that bilateral cooperation in the fields of economics, social affairs, politics, culture, education, and tourism has made notable progress.
According to him, these close ties are evident in the increasing visits by high-level officials, trade volume, investments, and the growth of tourism between the three nations. “This progress is not merely symbolic but tangible, manifested through bilateral visits, trade, investments, and tourists,” said Ambassador Fadjroel while celebrating the New Year 2025 at the Indonesian Embassy in Astana on Tuesday, 31 December 2024. “It serves as a testament to the strong cooperation and commitment from all three nations to strengthen relations,” he added.
One significant achievement is the visit of the Prime Minister of Tajikistan to Indonesia in May 2024, for the World Water Forum, where he met with President Joko Widodo. Additionally, Tajikistan’s Minister of Industry also visited Indonesia in November to meet with several ministers, further reinforcing diplomatic ties and paving the way for cooperation in various sectors.
Fadjroel mentioned that Indonesia’s bilateral trade with Kazakhstan reached USD 351.5 million (approximately IDR 5.7 trillion) between January and October 2024, while with Tajikistan, it amounted to USD 1.5 million (approximately IDR 24.3 billion), marking an increase of over 50% compared to the previous year. “These increases highlight the significant potential for economic cooperation among the three countries,” he stated.
The Indonesian Embassy in Astana has also facilitated numerous business matching visits, connecting Indonesian entrepreneurs with their counterparts from Kazakhstan and Tajikistan. At the Trade Expo Indonesia and Indonesia South and Central Asia Business Forum in October 2024, KBRI Astana hosted 12 Kazakh entrepreneurs, including representatives from Kazakhstan’s national oil company, Kazmunaygas, to explore partnerships with PT Pertamina.
The tourism sector has also seen significant progress. By October 2024, the number of tourists from Kazakhstan and Tajikistan visiting Indonesia reached 17,113, surpassing the KBRI Astana’s annual target of 12,000. Most of these tourists chose Bali as their preferred destination. “We are continuously working to realise direct flights between Indonesia and Kazakhstan,” added Fadjroel.
Indonesian embassy in Astana remains committed to providing consular assistance, including handling 23 cases involving Indonesian nationals in Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, as well as offering support in data verification, education, and assistance for over 375 Indonesians, diaspora, and foreign partners. “The consular services we provide, such as visa and passport issuance, as well as document legalisation, demonstrate our concrete efforts in maintaining these close relations,” Fadjroel concluded.
