Voinews, Beijing: The Government of China, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has officially congratulated Indonesia on becoming a full member of BRICS. In a statement released by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Indonesia is regarded as a major developing country and a key force in the Global South, with a strong commitment to the spirit of BRICS.
"Indonesia, as a major developing country and an important force in the Global South, highly recognizes the BRICS spirit and has actively participated in BRICS Plus cooperation," the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in an official release on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
With its official membership, Indonesia is expected to make a tangible contribution to strengthening solidarity and cooperation among BRICS member countries. This step is also seen as part of the collective rise of the Global South.
"Indonesia's official membership in BRICS serves the common interests of BRICS countries and the Global South, and we believe that Indonesia will make an active contribution to the development of BRICS," the statement added.
BRICS, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, is a key platform for promoting multilateralism, justice, and shared development. With this new membership, BRICS is expected to become stronger in promoting reforms to the global governance system for a more just and inclusive framework.
The Chinese government also reiterated its commitment to working with Indonesia and other member countries to support the high-quality development of BRICS cooperation.
Indonesia's membership in BRICS is seen as not only strengthening Indonesia's strategic position on the global stage but also making a significant contribution to building a global community with a shared future for humanity.
