Voinews, Jakarta: The Government of the Republic of Indonesia has welcomed the announcement from Brazil, as the Chair of BRICS 2025, regarding Indonesia’s full membership in BRICS. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemlu RI) stated that this achievement reflects Indonesia’s increased active role in global issues and its commitment to strengthening multilateral cooperation for a more inclusive and just global order.
"Indonesia views its membership in BRICS as a strategic step to enhance collaboration with other developing countries, based on the principles of equality, mutual respect, and sustainable development," Kemlu RI stated in an official release in Jakarta on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
In addition, Indonesia is committed to actively contributing to the BRICS agenda, such as promoting economic resilience, technological cooperation, sustainable development, and addressing global challenges such as climate change, food security, and public health.
The Ministry also expressed appreciation to Russia, as the Chair of BRICS 2024, for supporting the process of Indonesia’s accession, and to Brazil, as the Chair of BRICS 2025, for officially announcing Indonesia’s participation.
"This membership is the result of Indonesia’s active engagement with BRICS in recent years, including Indonesia’s participation in the BRICS Summit in Johannesburg 2023 and the Kazan Summit 2024," Kemlu RI said.
Kemlu RI considers Indonesia’s participation in BRICS as the fulfillment of Indonesia’s constitutional mandate to actively contribute to the global order. Indonesia, which has always been committed to bridging various interests in multilateral forums, is ready to participate constructively in various BRICS initiatives for the benefit of the global community.
"Indonesia has, and will continue, to honor its commitment to bridge various interests in multilateral forums. Indonesia is ready to participate constructively in various BRICS initiatives for the benefit of the global community," the statement concluded.
