Secretary of State to the French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne supports the efforts made by the Indonesian government in enhancing cooperation between the European Union (EU) and Indonesia. Lemoyne also supports cooperation between the European Union member countries in the Southeast Asian region (ASEAN).
"To what extent does France support cooperation between Indonesia and the European Union? That is very important, precisely because we do not support bilateralism or talks between only two or four eyes, which prioritize dialogue or discussion between the European Union and Indonesia, and possibly in the future it is even better if there is a commercial or trade agreement between two blocks, namely the European Union and ASEAN, if it goes there it means opening up a very broad market with hundreds of millions of consumers," said Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne in a press statement at the French Institute, Jakarta on Thursday (29/11).
Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne explained that cooperation between ASEAN and the European Union could help resolve the trade war between China and the United States. He believes that the efforts made by the Indonesian and European Union governments to create cooperation between the two regions can be realized. This can be proven by the successful cooperation between the European Union-Japan and the European Union-South Korea since 2011. Lemoyne visited Indonesia on November 27-29 and held meetings with several high-ranking state officials such as the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs, Luhut Pandjaitan, Minister of Industry, Airlangga Hartarto, and Head of the Investment Coordinating Board, Thomas Lembong.
