Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Informatics was of the view that radio as a  media which announces information and entertainment still exists in the millennial competition. Radio has the power to attract its listeners. Expert staff of Secretary-General of Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Informatics, Hendrasmo, said becoming a speaker at Diplomatic Forum tlk show organized by Voice of Indonesia themed The Future of Radio in Jakarta on Wednesday (4/9) suggested that radio must transform, both in the contents and technology, to meet the need of the millennial people. He said radio must keep on revitalizing.

“So, if we see the trend. This is a global trend. The people who listen to the radio is getting lower. That’s the analogy. If we see one of the data, the connectivity level of Indonesia has been 64 percent of the population that is connected to the internet. In majority, Indonesian people are connected with the smartphone. It is everything. To make radio being listened to by many people, it must also be at the smartphone,” said Hendrasmo.

Hendrasmo also appreciated RRI which has made the android-based application and it can be accessed on a smartphone. He said there are 63.4 million millennials, or 30 percents of the total population of Indonesia, that will become the major population in 2025. Therefore, radio has a big sufficient market if it considers the telecommunication development in the next 5 years.//. (VOI/AGUS)
