Extreme weather hitting California since Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020, touching temperatures of up to 48 degrees Celcius in several areas of Southern California.

The Indonesian General Consulate in Los Angeles, United States advises Indonesian who live in the area to stay alert.

"The temperature in Southern California in the next few days will be very extreme. In some areas it has even reached nearly 50 degrees Celcius," Ardian Budhi Nugroho, the consul for protocol and consular affairs of the Consulate said in a written statement on Monday.

Ardian said the consulate continues to communicate with Indonesian citizens in Southern California.

"We continue to communicate with our Indonesian citizens. So far, none of our Indonesian citizens have been seriously affected by this extreme weather," he said.

The extreme weather that hits California in this long "Labor Day" holiday also has the potential to cause forest and land fires.

"The heat of the air and the wind in recent days have been suspected of triggering forest and land fires. We urge Indonesian citizens to be careful," Ardian said.

Suwanto, an Indonesian citizen who lives in Los Angeles, said the weather is very hot in the Los Angeles area.

“The weather is unbelievably hot. On Saturday, me and the Indonesian Gowes Community in Los Angeles were riding around LA and the weather was very hot. Even the wind is hot too," he said. (RRI)
