Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said that the economic recovery was on the right track, in line with the performance of various industries that grew positively in the third quarter of 2020.

Apart from agriculture, the positive growth in the industrial sector, which has a large contribution to GDP by 20 percent, is a sign that the Indonesian economy is entering the recovery stage.

Coordinating Minister Airlangga noted that the industrial sector growth was 5.2 percent (q to q).  A number of industries that showed growth were food and beverage by 4.23 percent, basic metals 10 percent, metal and optical goods at 8 percent, and transportation equipment at 17 percent.

"This supports that the recovery is on the right track and we hope that in the fourth quarter there will be additional encouragement, both in terms of APBN financing, economic recovery and investment programs," said Coordinating Minister Airlangga in a virtual discussion held by BNPB.  , Monday.

Apart from that, he said, Indonesia's economic growth in the third quarter was also improved, although it is still contracted by 3.49 percent.  However, when compared to the second quarter which experienced is minus 5.32 percent, economic growth experienced an improvement of 5.05 percent.

Coordinating Minister Airlangga explained that currently the cure for COVID-19 patients has reached 84 percent.  The government is still accelerating economic recovery with a balanced "gas and brake" effectiveness.

He believes that if it can maintain performance at the same level, economic growth in the fourth quarter of 2020 is estimated to be in a positive path of 0.6 percent to 1.6 percent.

Therefore, said the Coordinating Minister for Airlangga, the government will continue the National Economic Recovery Program (PEN) until the first quarter of 2021, for health priorities, social protection, MSMEs, corporations, to subsidies and pre-work cards.

"Thus, support to maintain purchasing power in 2021 related to KUR subsidies and Pre-Work Cards, will give breath to the community," said Coordinating Minister Airlangga. (Antaranews)
