The Ministry of Agriculture of Indonesia, in collaboration with The National Support for Local Investment Climates/National Support for Enhancing Local and Regional Economic Development (NSLIC/NSELRED), virtually held International Seminar on Regulatory Improvement in Asia. The seminar aims to share good practices and lessons-learned in providing quality, effective, and efficient regulations.

“This workshop is very important for us in Indonesia, in making various improvements to domestic regulations, especially with the enactment of Law Number 11 of 2020 concerning Job Creation, which is a monumental step for Indonesia in managing domestic regulations”, Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo said in his opening remarks.

The seminar highlighted a model of good practices and the implementation of regulations with a special emphasis on the impacts and challenges on the agricultural sector during the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, the experiences on regulations establishment process and strategies for regulatory sustainability were also discussed during the seminar.

The key speakers who shared their experiences were Shingo Kimura from Asian Development Bank (ADB), Erizal Jamal from the Ministry of Agriculture of Indonesia, Mike Pfister from Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Indonesia, Rodolfo V. Vicerra from the Department of Agriculture of the Philippines, and Prof. Edmund Tayao from the Local Government Development Foundation (LOGODEF) of the Philippines.

The Ambassador of Canada to Indonesia, H.E. Cameron MacKay, complimented the Government of Indonesia on the continuous improvements of its regulatory-making process.

“I am pleased that our project supports the Ministry of Agriculture to strengthen its capacity to develop good quality regulations that benefit farmers, communities and businesses in the agriculture sector," conveyed the Ambassador.
