In the dialog, there is an expression Jangan menangis (2x) which means Don’t cry. The word jangan (2x) which means do not or don’t is an expression of prohibition. The word jangan can be followed by a verb. The word jangan is usedto prohibit someone from doing an activity.
For example:
Jangan memakan makanan ini! (2x) which means Don’t eat this food!
Dani, kamu jangan tidur di kelas! (2x) which means Dani, do not sleep in class!
Besides jangan, anotherword to expressprohibition isdilarang (2x) which means no and tidak boleh (2x) which means cannot. The two words have the same function as the word jangan, namely to prohibit someone to do an activity.
For example:
Kevin : Ardi, di tempat ini dilarang buang sampah sembarangan. which means Ardi, no littering in this place, please.
Ardi : Baik, Kevin.
Another example:
Kevin : Maya, kamu tidak boleh makan makanan ini. Tidak baik untuk kesehatanmu. which means Maya, you cannot eat this food. This is not good for your health.
Maya : Baiklah, Kevin.
