Hai, dik. Kenapa kamu menangis?

Anak kecil

Balonku pecah, Kak.

Kevin  

Kenapa bisa pecah?

Anak kecil

Balonnya terbawa angin kemudian pecah.

Sudah. Jangan menangis, dik.

Anak kecil

Aku sudah tidak punya balon lagi.

Di mana kamu membelinya?

Baiklah. Tunggu aku di sini ya, dik! Aku akan membelikan balon untukmu.

Having listened to the conversation, now I am going to introduce some vocabularies and expressions related to the topic of the day.

Hai, dik. (2x)

which means Hi, kid.

Kenapa kamu menangis? (2x)

which means Why do you cry?

Balonku pecah. (2x)

which means My balloon burst.

Kenapa bisa pecah? (2x)

which means How come it bursts?

Jangan menangis. (2x)

which means Don’t cry!

Di mana kamu membelinya? (2x)

which means Where did you buy it?

Di sana. (2x)

which means There.

Tunggu aku di sini. (2x)

which means Wait for me here.

In the dialog, there is an expression Jangan menangis (2x) which means Don’t cry. The word jangan (2x) which means do not or don’t is an expression of prohibition. The word jangan can be followed by a verb. The word jangan is usedto prohibit someone from doing an activity. 

For example:

Jangan memakan makanan ini! (2x) which means Don’t eat this food!

Dani, kamu jangan tidur di kelas! (2x) which means Dani, do not sleep in class!

Besides jangananotherword to expressprohibition isdilarang (2x) which means no and tidak boleh (2x) which means cannot. The two words have the same function as the word jangan, namely to prohibit someone to do an activity. 

For example:

Kevin         : Ardi, di tempat ini dilarang buang sampah sembarangan. which means Ardi, no littering in this place, please.

Ardi   : Baik, Kevin.

Another example:

Kevin   : Maya, kamu tidak boleh makan makanan ini. Tidak baik untuk kesehatanmu. which means Maya, you cannot eat this food. This is not good for your health.

Maya   : Baiklah, Kevin.
