The Law and Human Rights Ministry unveiled an update to the communal intellectual property national data center (PDN KIK) application that protects Indonesia's cultural value.

"The update to the PDN KIK will make it the only platform that presents valid data concerning information on communal intellectual property," Law and Human Rights Vice Minister Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej noted.

During the event to unveil PDN KIK here on Tuesday, Hiariej explained that the data center will be capable of integrating communal intellectual property data scattered across several related ministries' or institutions' databases.

One of the information contained in it is non-material cultural inheritance that earlier came under the Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry, he pointed out.

In addition, the data center contains biodiversity information in the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) and natural medicine information system in the National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM).

"This data integration is a breakthrough in collecting KIK's data and information at one place," Hiariej affirmed.

As a result, it would make it easy for people to find references related to history, culture, traditional knowledge, and geographic indication potential, he elaborated.

The communal intellectual property data center could also be a reference point for patent and industry design examiners in conducting an examination of intellectual property submission that came from KIK.

Moreover, this data center will strengthen the proof of ownership over Indonesia's communal intellectual property and could serve as repository of materials to promote Indonesia's culture to the international world.

Meanwhile, official from the Intellectual Property Director General Razilu noted that the number of KIK recorded under the director general had reached 1,651.

"Not all of them are here actually since Indonesia has a vast geographic landscape that resulted in each region having a unique cultural characteristic," Razilu explained. (Antaranews)

Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan highlighted the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to develop national geoparks as tourism destinations.

Pandjaitan drew attention to geoparks as the new potential to attract more domestic and international tourists while presenting his remarks at the II National Geopark Conference taking place at the 2021 Geopark Indonesia Summit event on Monday (Nov 22).

"We need to support the 'geopark' concept as defined by Presidential Regulation No. 9 of 2019, and we must also enhance multi-stakeholder management by observing the three pillars of geopark development: conservation, education, and residents' livelihood," the coordinating minister noted in the written statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The Proud to Travel to Indonesia Tourism Destinations Program is a breakthrough to boost the residents' pride in domestic tourism destinations, and the program could be synergized by the development of geotrails in Indonesian geoparks, Pandjaitan noted.

Apart from hosting tourism attractions, geoparks could also participate in the Proud of Indonesian-made Products Program by developing geoproducts at geoparks, he added.

"This challenge presents an opportunity because we first need to conceive ways to manage and integrate geoparks for the best interest of locals," the coordinating minister stated.

Pandjaitan encouraged relevant stakeholders, including ministries, state and private institutions, academics, communities, and the general public, to collaborate for the development of national geoparks. The stakeholders must also participate to maintain and protect the environment to ensure the continuity of natural and cultural diversity inside the geoparks, he added.

Indonesia is the country with the most number of UNESCO Global Geoparks (UGGps) in Southeast Asia and is the eighth of the only 44 countries with registered UGGp worldwide, Pandjaitan noted.

Indonesia, with 13 geoparks and another six that have been designated as UGGp, currently strives to develop 12 tourist destinations as global geoparks as outlined in the 2020-2024 national middle-term development plan, he stated. (Antaranews)

Vice President Ma'ruf Amin conveyed that investment in nutrition is the most prudent and profitable form of investment, as it can generate profits of up to 30 folds.

"Investing in nutrition is the most profitable form of investment. Every dollar of investment in nutrition programs will generate 30 folds profits. It is a smart investment," Amin noted at the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) 2021 Annual Meeting on Tuesday.

Amin explained that the investment value in the nutrition sector will continue to increase, especially for nutrition-related investments that have a high impact and opportunity to improve the quality of people's life.

"In development, nutritional intervention is the most cost-effective intervention. This is what prompted the formation of the Movement for the Acceleration of Nutrition Improvement or the SUN Movement," the vice president noted.

Indonesia has a high commitment to expediting the improvement of community nutrition, both domestically and at the global level. The Indonesian government will continue to make various strengthening efforts, right from the regulatory framework, to intervention framework, and funding framework, as well as the monitoring and evaluation framework.

In the last decade, Indonesia's efforts to boost nutrition have shown significant results. This was reflected in the reduced prevalence of child stunting and wasting, which is the result of drastic weight loss in children, Amin added.

"From 2013 to 2019, the prevalence of stunting had dropped by almost 10 percent, while the decline in wasting prevalence had approached five percent," he confirmed.

Hence, Amin lauded all parties involved in the SUN Movement for encouraging commitment from various parties to be actively involved in accelerating the improvement of community nutrition.

"I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to all parties that have been conducting collaborative work in accelerating nutritional improvement," the vice president noted. (Antaranews)

Vice President Ma'ruf Amin emphasized that large funding would be required for accelerating the achievement of sustainable development goals (SDGs).

"We realize that accelerating the achievement of SDGs requires large funding. Before the pandemic, the gap in financing the SDGs was quite wide," Amin stated at the opening of Indonesia's SDGs Annual Conference 2021 via video conference from Jakarta, Tuesday.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic that affected the economic sector, Amin noted that the needs to achieve the SDGs at the global level grew to 70 percent.

"During the pandemic, the need for funding for SDGs at the global level is estimated to increase by 70 percent," Amin added.

With the increasing financial needs for SDGs, Amin emphasized the importance of financing innovation for various SDGs through cross-sectoral collaboration.

"The fact shows the importance of financing innovation through cross-stakeholder collaboration, at the global, national, regional, and even village level to close the financing gap," he noted.

This aspect of financing plays as an important factor for every country. Developed and developing countries have differing levels of ability and readiness to handle its finances.

"Hence, the achievement of SDGs must be conducted in a measurable and directed manner and also adapted to the Indonesian context," Amin added.

The vice president later noted that Indonesia's commitment to achieving the 2030 SDGs was by solving the problem of extreme poverty. In fact, Indonesia has targeted to accelerate efforts to reduce extreme poverty to zero percent by 2024.

"President Joko Widodo has given directions for alleviating extreme poverty in 2024," Amin expounded.

In addition, Indonesia's efforts to achieve the SDGs are related to reducing the prevalence of stunting in children, which is targeted to reach 14 percent by 2024.

"We must continue to ensure that the SDGs are achieved through inclusive efforts. We ensure that no one is left behind in this country," Amin concluded. (Antaranews)
