A press release from the National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB) said thatIndonesia is a vulnerable-to disaster-country. In the past 15 years, a number of disaster has increased by almost 20 fold.  There havebeen more than 2,300 disastersin 2017. In the disasters, children are most likely to become victims, because they cannot save themselves. In addition, they also have the potential to experience physical and psychological trauma due to the limited basic needs fulfillment during the evacuation. The Indonesian Ministry for Women's Empowerment and Child Protection in cooperation with the National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB) held a Workshop with the theme "Child Protection in Disaster Emergency" in Jakarta, Tuesday (17/7). After opening the workshop, Minister for Women's Empowerment and Child Protection, Yohana Yembise said that the joint workshop of the Ministry and the board is a very strategic opportunity to discuss further in handling children and women issues in the disaster situation. 

"Children's growth and their protection are lack of concern. This is a very strategic opportunity. Through the workshop, we can share experiences, best practices, which can be used between the two ministries and institutions, including our ministry in handling the women and children issues," said Yohana Yembise.

Minister Yohana Yembise further said, so far she realized that the handling of child protection in disaster situation has not been maximized. Therefore, the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection with the National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB) continue to improve children protection in the disaster situation, at the stage of mitigation, emergency response, rehabilitation and reconstruction. These include preventingacts of violence such as being the target of child trafficking. Indonesian Vice President, Jusuf Kalla received bilateral visit of Gambian Vice president, Ousaino Darboe at Vice Presidential Palace in Jakarta, on Monday (16/7). In the meeting, Vice president Jusuf Kalla was accompanied by Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister, Retno Marsudi. The aim of Vice president Darboe to Indonesia was to invite Indonesia attending the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit which will be conducted in November 2019 in Gambia. In addition, according to minister Retno Marsudi, Indonesia will assist Gambia to prepare the Summit through protocol training and  capacity building of police personnel.

“Our team from Ministry of Foreign Affairs will fly to Gambia to  help part of protocol. Secondly, the Police will probably conduct assessment on the need of capacity building for Gambian Police,” Retno Marsudi said.

Minister Retno Marsudi moreover added, the meeting of Indonesian and Gambian Vice Presidents also discussed the increasing of cooperation in the field of education, agriculture, and trade. In addition, Indonesia also asked Gambia  as member of Economic Community of West African Countries  (ECOWAS)  to support  the proposal  of  Trade Preferences Agreement in an effort to boost Indonesia's export performance to western Africa. Crude Palm Oil (CPO) is one of products which will become factor to increase export performance to west Africa. The governments of Indonesia and Gambia forge cooperation in the protocol and security fields to host the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit in Gambia in November 2019.

As a host of the summit, which will be attended by delegations from 57 countries, Gambia needs assistance on capacity building for its security and protocol personnel, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said.
" Indonesia has been providing training for the protocols since 2017, in order to prepare Gambia for hosting the OIC Summit this year. We have sent our protocol team to educate protocol officers in Gambia," she stated, after accompanying Vice President Jusuf Kalla to a meeting with his Gambian counterpart Ousainou Darboe in Jakarta, on Monday.

In the near future, Indonesia will continue sending protocol and security team to Gambia to conduct training and evaluation of the previous training. The assessment team consists of Foreign Ministry and police officers.

Darboe, who paid a courtesy call to Kalla, expressed his amazement over the protocol and security services of the Indonesian Government since his arrival in Jakarta on Sunday (July 15).

Such services and hospitality, which made him feel like home, are what the Gambian government wants to learn from Indonesia.

"We want to learn from the experience of the Indonesian experts in organizing a summit class event. Gambia is indeed the host, but Indonesia and Gambia will hold this together," Darboe told the press.

In addition to discussing the OIC Summit, Darboe and Kalla also discussed about the improvement of bilateral cooperation.

"Gambian vice president will visit Indonesia to deliver an invitation for the OIC Summit, and, of course, (we talked about) efforts to improve Indonesia-Gambia relations," Kalla pointed out. (ANTARA)

People in Yogyakarta have been asked to come out to welcome the arrival of Asian Games torch in Yogyakarta Tuesday.

"This will be a pride for Yogyakarta, which would be the first place for the 18th Asian Games Torch Relay. We hope people will come out to welcome it," the special region’s administration and public welfare assistant, Sulistyo, said at a press conference in Yogyakarta on Monday.

He stated that the Yogyakarta provincial government has coordinated with the administrations of Sleman district and the city of Yogyakarta with regard to welcoming the torch that will pass the two places.

"We have also prepared security measures in cooperation with the police as this will be a historic moment. Yogyakarta is chosen to be the first to welcome the Asian Games torch as it will be the first venue of the Games," he remarked.

He noted that the event would have the potential to promote tourism in Yogyakarta and increase the number of tourists visiting the Central Java region.

He added that various kinds of event have been prepared to welcome the torch in a number of locations, such as Dirgantara museum, Ratu Boko Temple, Prambanan Temple, and Malioboro.

Asian Games 2018 Torch Relay organizer, Virza Reskyana Indra, said that the flame would be taken from New Delhi, India, as the location of the first Asian Games and is scheduled to arrive at Yogyakarta’s Adisutjipto Airport at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

The Chairman of Indonesia Asian Games Organizing Committee (INASGOC), Erick Thohir, would bring the torch from India, along with Torch Ambassador Susy Susanti.

"Upon arrival, it will be welcomed with a dance performance and accepted by the Forum of Communication of Regional Government (Forkopimda) and Yogyakarta governor before being taken to Dirgantara Museum," he explained.

On Wednesday, the torch would be paraded to Ratu Boko Temple and in the evening to Prambanan Temple to be met with eternal flame from Mrapen. Vice President Jusuf Kalla is scheduled to attend the event at Prambanan.

On Thursday, the torch will be taken to Tugu Jogja to be paraded for about 10 kilometers through Mangkubumi and Malioboro to Alun-Alun Yogyakarta (Yogyakarta square). From Yogyakarta, it will be taken back to Tugu before being seen off by the City Mayor Haryadi Suyuti, for the INASGOC committee to take it to Solo in Central Java. (ANTARA)
