Three representatives of Indonesian badminton athletes have succeeded in making Indonesia win the overall title at the Indonesia Masters 2020. They won the main podium from three sectors. The winners were men's doubles: Marcus Fernaldi Gideon / Kevin Sanjaya, women's doubles Greysia Polii / Apriyani Rahayu and men's singles Anthony Sinisuka Ginting.

The three representatives were able to defeat their opponents at the top of party of the Indonesia Masters 2020 at Istora Senayan, Sunday (1/18/2020). Meanwhile, the highest podium of the other two sectors is occupied by China (mixed doubles) and Thailand (women's singles). Marcus / Kevin became the first Red and White representative to rise on the main podium after the "civil war" in the final party against Mohammad Ahsan / Hendra Setiawan. The pair nicknamed The Minions won straightly two games with scores of 21-15, 21-16 in 32 minutes.

A total of 29 western regional athletes advance to the 2020 National E-sports Presidential Cup Final which will be held at ICE BSD Tangerang, Banten on February 1-2.

Chairperson of the Organizing Committee for the E-sports 2020 President Cup, Giring Ganesha said in Jakarta on Monday that the winners were ELVO GI (4 players) as winners of the Free Fire game, one winner of the e-Football Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) game, and 24 winners of the Mobile Premiere League game (MPL).

Before the Western Regional Qualification Final, the E-sports 2020 Presidential Cup resulted in 10 winners from the Eastern Regional Qualification Final. They consist of eight Mobile Premiere League (MPL) winners, one e-Football Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) winner, and one Free Fire winning team. The winners from these two regions will represent Indonesia competing against qualifying champions from Southeast Asian regional countries, namely Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines and Cambodia.

Indonesia's leading sprinter, Lalu Muhammad Zohri will fly to China to take part in an athletic championship as a trial match before competing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in July. Indonesian short-distance trainer, Eni Nuraeni said in Jakarta on Monday (20/1) that Zohri will take part in at least two indoor athletics championships which take place in February and March.

The first championship that Zohri is certain to take part in is the 9th Asian Indoor Championships on February 12-13 in Hangzhou, and then, he will participate in the 2020 World Athletics Indoor Tour in Nanjing, China on March 13-15.

Eni, when met after training at the Bung Karno Madras Stadium, Jakarta, said that although Zohri had been confirmed to qualify for the 2020 Olympics that the athletes still need to take part in several championships as a practice match and improve and prepare themselves before the Olympics. Previously, at the Seiko Golden Grand Prix 2019 in Osaka, Japan, Zohri was able to finish in third place with a record time of 10.03 seconds. The results ensured Zohri's ticket to the 2020 Olympics because he successfully broke the 10.05-second passing limit in the 100-meter running category. For Zohri, the indoor athletics championship which will be a 60-meter race will be a challenge for him. At 60 meters, Zohri will finalize the start block.

Performing brilliantly at the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines made the name of Indonesian women's cyclist Ayustina Delia Priatna become an great attraction for foreign teams and this time, the cyclist, nicknamed Ayu, was contracted by the Thai Women's Cycling Team (TWC) to compete in the international arena.

The contracting of the cyclist from West Java was justified by Head of Performance Improvement of the Executive Board of the Indonesian Cycling Association (PB ISSI), Budi Saputra in Jakarta on Monday (20/1/2020). At the 2019 SEA Games, Ayu appeared alone in the individual road race (IRR) number and had to deal with cyclists from other countries that dropped three cyclists. However, Ayu still appeared confident and was able to present a bronze medal for Indonesia.

Before performing brilliantly in the biennial championship, the 22-year-old racer was fairly consistent when she took part in the championship. This girl, who was born in Bandung, is also an Indonesian hero on the track for long numbers. At TWC, Ayu filled the slot of Thai rider, Jutatip Maneephan who is currently defending a European team, Alé BTC Ljubljana. She will work hand in hand with 5 other Thai riders.

The Asian continental team, according to Budi Saputra, is expected to be able to be a support and motivation for Ayu to penetrate European teams.

 Indonesia's national team has temporarily collected at least 12 gold medals, 20 silver medals, and 18 bronze medals at the 2019 Southeast Asia (SEA) Games competition but stays at fourth in the medal tally.  

The host country the Philippines ranked as the top medal collector at the biennial multi-sport event with 47 gold medals, 31 silver medals, and 13 bronze medals. It was followed by Vietnam at the second-best, and Malaysia at the third-best of the medal tally.

On the third day, Indonesia's contingent collected six gold, nine silver, and six bronze medals from various sports disciplines, including Wushu, shooting, Pencak Silat martial arts, weightlifting, and gymnastics.

Despite grieving on the death of his father, Indonesia's Wushu athlete, Edgar Xavier Marvelo managed to maintain a strong performance by snatching two gold medals in individual Taolu Daoshu/Goshu number and group Dullian number.

In the shooting category, a gold medal was added by Vidya Rafika in the women's 10M RF number. She had succeed in subduing two of Singapore's athletes, Xiu Yi and Adele Qian Xiu.

In the Pecak Silat martial arts category, Indonesia's female athlete Puspa Arum Sari managed to add the first gold medal during the tournament at the Subic Bay Exhibition.

Last month, Indonesia's President Joko Widodo appealed to the athletes to grant the country the second-best medal tally of the multi-sport event from November 30 to December 11.

"I want us to emerge as the top two at the Philippines 30th SEA Games," President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said in his speech, delivered at a ceremony releasing the Indonesian contingent at the Presidential Palace in Bogor, West Java.

At the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Indonesia's contingent managed to collect 38 gold medals.

Despite being the youngest weightlifter in the women’s 49 kilogram category at the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, Windy Cantika Aisah seemed fearless when she entered Ninoy Aquino Stadium of Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Metro Manila, the Philippines, on Monday morning.

The 17-year-old dominated the 49 kg category by breaking the youth world record under her own name in both snatch and clean and jerk, securing Indonesia’s third gold medal at the Philippine Games.

Windy, whose lifting prowess runs in the family – her mom Siti Aisah was a bronze medalist at the 1988 World Weightlifting Championships – showed her dominance from the beginning as she topped the leaderboards with a magnificent 86 kg lift in snatch.

The dominance continued in clean and jerk with a powerful 104 kg lift. With the result, she broke the youth world record, which she herself held – Lisa previously lifted 84 kg in snatch and 102 kg in clean and jerk.

“I thank God because this is all because of him. I dedicate this [medal] for my dad as he went to surgery this morning, and also for my mom and for the country,” she said after the medal ceremony.

Windy strongly outshone even her closest competitor, silver medalist Phyo Pyae Pyae of Myanmar, who trailed her by 10 kg with a total lift of 180 kg. Vietnam’s Ngo Thi Nguyen claimed third place with 172 kg.

National coach Dirja Wihardja applauded Windy’s performance as her record almost matched that of veteran Sri Wahyuni, a silver medalist at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. Sri, who is currently on maternity leave after giving birth to her first daughter, scored a total lift of 192 kg.

Dirja said that Windy was very disciplined during practice. Her mother, he said, had taught her about proper management of diet and sleep, an important part of becoming a successful athlete.

Cyclist from West Kalimantan, Bernard Benyamin van Aert took home two medals from the 2019 Asian Track Championship in Jincheon, South Korea, October 17-22. When confirmed from Pontianak on Monday (21/10), Bernard said that he won a silver medal in the point race number and bronze in the scratch race number. He added that what he presented is the best achievement for Indonesia. According to him, the achievement obtained is the result of past intensive training both in Yogyakarta and in Jakarta.At the 2019 Asian Track Championship, Indonesia sent several senior cyclists such as Crismonita Dwi Putri, Elga Kharisma Novanda, Puguh Admadi, Terry Yuda Kusuma and Bernard Benyamin van Aert, while the junior cyclists are Angga Dwi Wahyu, Barley Octavian and Mochammad Bintang Syawal. This championship is also a medium to collect UCI points to catch up to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. In addition, Indonesia also sent Muhammad Fadli Imammudin. The result was quite extraordinary because he was able to win the 4,000 meter Individual Pursuit (IP) gold medal and the 1,000 meter IP silver medal.

The Indonesian National Paralympic Committee (NPC) contingent sent 18 athletes. They succeeded in bringing home five medals in the 2019 Global Games for Disabilities Internationals (INAS) match, in Brisbane Australia. The 18 athletes participated in three sports from 10 contested branches, and they won one gold medal, two silver, and two bronze medals. Chairperson of NPC Indonesia Contingent, Sapta Kunto Purnama upon his arrival in Solo on Monday (21/10) said that Indonesian NPC participated in three sports: athletics, swimming and table tennis, and other branches were tennis, taekwondo, rowing, netball, bicycle racing, basketball, and futsal. Five medals in athletics were presented by Indonesian athlete, Elvin Elhudia Sesa in the women's 400-m track. This special Indonesian athlete who is mentally disabled was very surprising because she managed to beat gold and silver medals at the 2018 Asian Para Games in Indonesia. Kunto also said that two other silver medals were presented from the 50-meter butterfly-style swimming branch by Suci Indriani and the 800-meter athletic branch by Tiwa. Meanwhile, two bronze medals were won from the 800-meter running by Elvin Elhudia Sesa, and the Mixed 4X100-meter swimming style by Syuci Indriani, Meliana Ratih, Muhammad Bejita, and Irfan Septiana. According to him, those athletes sent by Indonesian NPC to the 2019 INAS Global Games in Australia are the possible candidates of athletes to be sent to next 2020 Paralympiade Disability World Games in Tokyo, Japan.

Aries Susanti Rahayu scored again as a gold medalist in the world rock climbing Championship. She succeeded in obtaining gold in the World Cup Climbing (IFSC World Cup) which was held in Xiamen, China, Saturday (10/19/2019).Aries won the world championship and defeated world record holder, Yi Ling Song from China. In addition, she also broke the world record as the first woman in history and she scores the time under 7 seconds, which is 6.995 seconds in women's speed world number. Her first achievement at international debut was at the Asian Championship in Iran in September 2017. She only presented a bronze medals from hers specialty number. She was defeated by Chinese climber, Song Yiling in the semifinals. In the 2017 world championship series held in Xiamen China, Aries won silver. Then, at the 2018 IFSC held in Tai'an China, Aries won bronze in the speed world record number. Her name became very prominent after her success in winning the world cup series in Chongqing, China in May 2018. She also became one of the mainstays of Indonesia in the 2018 Asian Games in speed number.At the 2018 Asian Games, Aries successfully defeated Song who had surpassed her at the Asian Championships in Iran in 2017. Indonesia officially appointed FIFA as the host of the 2021 U-20 World Cup. The certainty of Indonesia becomes the host of the 2021 U-20 World Cup after FIFA as the highest soccer authority in the world held a general meeting in Shanghai, China, Thursday (Oct 24). Indonesia becomes the remaining AFC representative after Myanmar / Thailand and Bahrain / Saudi Arabia / United Arab Emirates resigned.For PSSI, this nomination is part of a long-term plan towards a mission to bring Indonesia to host a senior World Cup in 2034 or 2038.
