State-owned electricity firm PT PLN has recovered electric power to Balaraja Extra High Voltage substation in Banten Province, and furthermore it will be channeled to Suralaya steam-fueled power plant (PLTU) to gradually recover its operation to reach its capacity of 2800 MW of electricity.
In addition, power supply from Gandul Extra High Voltage substations in Depok, West Java Province, will be channeled to Muara Karang gas and steam power plant (PLTGU) to supply electricity to the Indonesian capital city, Jakarta.
Acting President Director of PLN Sripeni Inten Cahyani said here on Sunday that the power supply to Jakarta was expected to recover within three hours.
"We apologize for the inconvenience today, and currently all efforts have been made to recover the Java-Bali power system, especially in the area of West Java, Banten, and Jakarta," Cahyani said.
The company has focused on power supply to PLTGU Muara Karang and PLTGU Priok to recover the system in the capital city.
Previously, PLN has recovered the operation of hydro-generated power plant (PLTA) Saguling and PLTA Cirata which are functioned as power stabilizer, and, at the same time, supply the electricity to PLTU Suralaya through Cibinong, Depok, Gandul, Lengkok, Balaraja and Suralaya extra high voltage substations.
PLTU Suralaya is expected to return to its normal operation within six hours to normalize power system in West Java and Banten.
Blackout that affected thousands of homes and public facilities in West Java, Jakarta, and Banten was caused by several troubles in the extra high voltage 500 kV transmission of Ungaran - Pemalang.
"PLN has taken its best efforts and will have evaluation to prevent recurrence of today's incident," Cahyani said.
Indonesia has urged all parties to take concrete steps to ease geopolitical tensions following US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan.
"The world needs wisdom and responsibility on the part of world leaders to maintain peace and stability," spokesperson for the Indonesian Foreign Ministry Teuku Faizasyah said in a written statement released on Wednesday.
Indonesia is also concerned by the increasingly intense rivalry between superpowers, he added.
"Unless (the rivalry) is managed well, it will hold potential for open conflict that will disrupt stability and peace, including in the Taiwan Strait," he said.
Indonesia continues to stick to the One China Policy, which means that Indonesia sees Taiwan as a part of China, he added.
China had said earlier that Pelosi's visit to Taiwan is a threat to regional peace and stability as it saw her visit as an acknowledgment of the island's sovereignty.
The Chinese Defense Ministry has reportedly readied military personnel and will launch guided military operations in reaction to Pelosi's visit to Taiwan.
The Chinese military announced a joint air and sea exercise near Taiwan starting Tuesday night.
It also tested the launch of a conventional guided missile in the waters off Taiwan's eastern coast.
Pelosi said the US Congress delegation's visit to Taiwan confirmed her nation’s firm commitment to supporting democracy in Taiwan.
She lauded Taiwan's commitment to democratic government and criticized China for escalating tensions with Taiwan dramatically in the past few years. (Antaranews)
The government is encouraging inclusive and egalitarian economic growth whose benefits can be felt by business players at various levels.
Trade Ministry official Widiantoro made the remark during a press conference on the Indonesia Shopping Festival here on Wednesday.
He urged major business actors to help micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) so that their businesses can revive and recover after confronting the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We cannot have one revive while the others do not. We have to revive and recover together," he remarked.
The ministry currently has several programs that can involve collaboration with business actors to expedite the growth of the national economy.
The programs include building partnerships between entrepreneurs, with MSMEs as suppliers in offline and online retail, such as e-commerce platforms and marketplaces.
Another program involves developing partnerships between shopping centers and MSMEs. The goal is to give MSMEs and brands the opportunity to be present in strategic locations at shopping centers.
Yet another program concerns digital transformation in the retail sector. Currently, entrepreneurs must see digital technology as a good opportunity amid the challenge to be more adaptable with the passage of time.
"Business actors are expected to be able to quickly utilize the online trade trend that aligns with the currently developing dynamic," Widiantoro remarked.
Moreover, the government is also partnering with related parties to hold training and assistance programs on effective and efficient retail management for local retail business actors.
In addition to these programs, the ministry is very open to inputs and ideas from parties, including the Indonesia Shopping Center Association (APPBI), to improve policies for expediting economic recovery.
APPBI will hold the Indonesia Shopping Festival from August 11–21, 2022, in several major cities across Indonesia to help the government expedite national economic recovery (PEN). (Antaranews)
Deputy Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Lestari Moerdijat has pushed for a continuous increase in national productivity and the effective use of existing resources to realize economic growth amid the threat of global crises.
"Efforts to accelerate economic growth by increasing productivity and effective use of our resources are very important amid the threat of energy and food crises experienced by many countries in the world," she said in a statement issued here on Tuesday.
According to Moerdijat, in May this year, the Minister of Finance, during a working meeting with the Budget Agency of the House of Representatives (DPR), revealed that to boost productivity, the 2023 state budget will focus on health, social protection, education, and infrastructure.
She lauded the government's steps to strengthen the development of several basic sectors that, in the past two years, have been affected by the pandemic and the global crisis.
"However, the threat of the current global crisis must really be answered by increasing community productivity and the effective use of the resources that we have," she said.
According to the deputy speaker, by guaranteeing the fulfillment of basic needs, it is expected that the community will continue to increase productivity.
Therefore, she said that various opportunities to work and conduct business must be opened and created so that the community can contribute optimally to boosting economic growth.
"Aside from that, the potential of new markets for domestically produced goods and services must be explored immediately to anticipate changes that occur," she suggested.
The MPR deputy speaker expressed the hope that the threat of the global crises will help increase the resilience of Indonesia's national economy by increasing creativity in creating new sources of economic growth.
She opined that it is necessary to focus the energy and creativity of the people to find and create as many opportunities as possible to grow in order to respond to the challenges presented by the global crises. (Antaranews)
The government will continue to maintain the economy to grow above five percent until the third quarter of 2022 amid global turmoil and uncertainty, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto stated.
Minister Hartarto said that if the economy is able to grow above five percent by the third quarter, then the annual growth target of 5-5.2 percent for this year will be achieved.
"The figure in the second quarter is expected to be slightly more than five percent. If we can maintain it until the third quarter, then the growth target of 5-5.2 percent by the end of the year can be achieved," the minister noted at the Mid-Year Economic Outlook 2022 event here on Tuesday.
Minister Hartarto said this optimism was in line with the economic growth that was still driven by demand, including consumption, investment, and exports, which grew positively. Meanwhile, from the supply side, almost all sectors also grew positively in response to the surge in demand.
In detail, in the first quarter of 2022, GDP from household consumption grew more than 4.34 percent, while consumption of Non-Profit Institutions serving Households (LNPRT) also increased 5.98 percent.
Gross fixed capital formation (PMTB) grew 4.09 percent; exports of goods and services, 16.22 percent; and imports of goods and services also rose 15.03 percent, while government consumption contracted 7.74 percent.
"Government consumption in the first quarter was relatively negative, but this can be compensated for in the third and fourth quarters," according to the minister.
Meanwhile, GDP growth from the business sector will also encourage the achievement of Indonesia's economic growth this year, given that the 2022 first-quarter realization is quite positive.
For transportation and warehousing, the growth had reached 15.79 percent; other services, 8.24 percent; information and communication, 7.14 percent; electricity and gas procurement, 7.04 percent; and accommodation and food as well as beverage provision, 6.56 percent.
Furthermore, corporate services grew 0.89 percent; manufacturing industry, 5.07 percent; construction, 4.83 percent; health services and social activities, 4.38 percent; mining and quarrying, 3.82 percent; real estate, 3.78 percent; while financial services and insurance, minus 2.59 percent.
For water supply, waste management, and recycling, the growth had reached 1.29 percent; agriculture, forestry, and fisheries grew 1.16 percent; while education services fell 1.7 percent.
Meanwhile, government administration, defense, and compulsory social security grew 0.7 percent, while wholesale and retail trade, car and motorcycle repairs also grew 5.71 percent.
The realization of Indonesia's leading indicators also shows good prospects, for instance, the Consumer Confidence Index (IKK) that had reached the level of 128.2, retail sales of 15.42 percent, core inflation of 2.86 percent, and the consumer price index (CPI) of 4.94 percent.
Furthermore, the Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) of the manufacturing sector was at 51.3; manufacturing industry utilization was at 69.2; imports of capital goods, 20.9 percent; imports of raw materials, 24.6 percent; investment, 5.59 percent; and capital work, 7.68 percent.
Meanwhile, he noted that in terms of the external sector resilience, Indonesia is also still solid, as was apparent from the trade balance that reached US$24.98 billion during the first quarter of 2022 and the current account to GDP averaging 0.07 percent of the GDP.
Moreover, foreign exchange reserves also reached US$136.4 billion that was deemed sufficient to meet six months of imports and a foreign debt ratio of 32.3 percent to the GDP in May 2022.
"We are still optimistic that economic growth will reach 5.2 percent in 2022, and in 2023, we hope this figure would increase to 5.3-5.9 percent," Minister Hartarto stated. (antaranews)
The Presidential Secretariat has opened public registrations for joining the ceremony marking the 77th anniversary of Indonesian independence at the Presidential Palace in person and online via video conferencing in a bid to unite citizens.
The secretariat has prepared 77 thousand invitations for people wishing to attend the ceremony virtually, head of the Presidential Secretariat, Heru Budi Hartono, informed.
“There will be entertainment (for the participants). In addition, the attendees will be able to interact with each other. We will give them the opportunity to discuss and talk to each other," he added.
He said he expects the virtual commemoration to draw the people of Indonesia together despite the great distance separating them due to the vast expanse of the country.
Furthermore, 2,500 invitations have been prepared for people wishing to attend the morning flag raising ceremony as well as another 2,500 invitations for people wishing to witness the afternoon flag lowering ceremony directly at the palace.
"Come join us in celebrating the 77th commemoration of the Proclamation Moment (by registering) at pandang.istanapresiden.go.id," Hartono urged.
Meanwhile, head of the Protocol Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat, M. Yusuf Permana, said that the increase in the number of virtual invitations from 40 thousand in 2021 to 77 thousand in 2022 is due to the high public interest in participating in the independence anniversary ceremony.
"Not only people in Jakarta, people in various (other) regions -- from Sabang city to Merauke city -- even diaspora people living abroad are also eager to attend the virtual ceremony,” he remarked.
A number of prizes will be given to several participants, such as the first 100 people who register for the virtual flag raising ceremony and another 100 participants who apply for the flag lowering ceremony, he informed.
Meanwhile, deputy for protocol, press, and media at the Presidential Secretariat, Bey Machmudin, said that it will be a challenging task to ensure that the virtual attendees enjoy the same atmosphere as the people attending the ceremony in person.
According to a video showing the launch of the pandang.istanapresiden.go.id website, the registrations for the public officially opened at 10:30 a.m. Western Indonesian Standard Time (WIB, UTC+7), on August 2, 2022.
The ceremony will be held at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on August 17. (Antaranews)
Indonesia's inflation rate was recorded at 4.94 percent year-on-year (yoy) in July 2022, showing the condition was quite well-maintained. Statistics Indonesia (BPS) head Margo Yuwono informed at a press conference here on Monday.
Meanwhile, core inflation was at 2.85 percent, which was also relatively low, he added.
"Compared to several (other) G20 countries, in particular, our inflation is still relatively under control," he said.
According to the latest inflation data from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), as of June 2022, Indonesia’s inflation reached 4.4 percent yoy.
Meanwhile, inflation in South Korea, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union was recorded at 6.1 percent, 8.2 percent, 9.1 percent, and 9.6 percent yoy, respectively.
“It illustrates that our economic fundamentals are still well,” the BPS head said.
So far, the global food and energy crises have affected domestic inflation -- especially since the inflation in the energy sector has continued to increase, he added.
“(However,) the (people’s burden due to the) increase in energy prices has been able to be reduced due to the subsidies provided by the government," he said.
The government has increased the energy subsidy budget from Rp443 trillion (US$29.66 billion) to Rp520 trillion (US$34.8 billion) and has refused to raise the price of fuel, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and electricity tariffs in the midst of soaring global energy prices.
Meanwhile, food inflation has mostly been caused by disruptions in the domestic supply of basic commodities due to bad weather in a number of regions.
Yuwono also informed that the inflation rate rose by 0.64 percent month-to-month (mtm) in July 2022, as the Consumer Price Index (CPI) climbed to 111.8 from 111.09 in June 2022.
The commodities whose rising prices contributed the most to inflation in July 2022 were red chili, air transportation services, shallots, fuel for households, and labuyo chili (Capsicum frutescens). (Antaranews)
Indonesia has stopped the imports of corn except for that used as raw material for industrial purposes, such as for producing sweeteners and other items, Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo stated.
"I would like to inform that we are no longer importing rice and corn, except corn used for industrial needs, including for producing sweeteners and others," Minister Limpo stated at the Presidential Office, here, Monday.
On Monday meeting, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) instructed ministers to increase corn production, both for raw materials and post-harvest products, including those that had undergone the cultivation process, Limpo remarked.
The increase in production is in the form of land intensification and extensification. As for post-harvest production, the Agriculture Ministry will make several efforts, such as building post-harvest support facilities, such as silos and dryers.
"Hence, of course, this effort will help to reduce toxins in the corn and also to maintain the water content at above 14-20 percent to meet the needs of the industry market," he remarked.
He later noted that corn production in Indonesia currently surpassed 18 million tons. The production will continue to be increased in an effort to meet the domestic requirements, including the industry. The government will also strive to increase corn exports.
"I can see that in 100 days from now, if we work hard, including following the order of Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs (Airlangga Hartarto) to prepare farmer groups, land intensification, and land extensification, we can achieve that. God willing, we will ready the concept in the next one or two weeks," Limpo stated.
On the same occasion, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the government will encourage corn production in new lands in Papua, West Papua, East Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, North Maluku, and North Kalimantan.
"With a total land area of 141 thousand hectares, 86 thousand hectares is new land for corn production," Hartarto noted. (Antaranews)
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will attend the 2022 ASEAN Para Games (APG) closing ceremony this weekend, chairman of the Indonesian ASEAN Para Games Organizing Committee (INASPOC), Gibran Rakabuming Raka, has confirmed.
"Yes, (the President will attend), and the closing ceremony will be different from the opening ceremony," Raka, who is also the mayor of Surakarta, informed here on Monday.
However, he did not disclose the names of the performers who will be featured at the ceremony. He said that must remain a secret to surprise the public.
Speaking about the health protocols for the closing ceremony, the INASPOC chairman said that invitees in the first and second rings will be required to undergo a COVID-19 swab test one day before the event.
"The public will be free (from the COVID-19 test requirement) because the current COVID-19 cases are still within the safe limit," he added.
Meanwhile, 2022 APG director III for games support, Henry Indrayani Oka, said that a large number of artists will be involved in the closing ceremony.
"Celebrities and Surakarta artists will all be involved," he added.
Officials from the Presidential Palace have confirmed that President Widodo will be present for the closing ceremony, he said.
The organizing body is still communicating with the relevant health agencies to coordinate health protocol enforcement during the closing ceremony, he informed.
"Regarding (the health protocol) mechanism in the second ring, it will be deliberated later. The booster vaccine requirement will remain for the general public, and it will be similar to regulations during the opening ceremony," he added.
The 2022 ASEAN Para Games were opened by Vice President Ma'ruf Amin at Manahan Stadium, Surakarta, Central Java, on Saturday (July 30, 2022).
During the opening ceremony, the Vice President said that he expects the 11th ASEAN Para Games (APG), themed “Striving for Equality,” to encourage the ASEAN community to become more inclusive and resilient.
"For all athletes, have a good fight in this healthy and fair competition. I hope that this sporting event will further strengthen friendly relations among ASEAN countries as well as communities," he remarked. (Antaranews)
Indonesian Vice President Ma'ruf Amin has said that he expects the implementation of the 11th ASEAN Para Games (APG), themed “Striving for Equality,” to encourage the ASEAN community to become more inclusive and resilient.
"For all athletes, have a good fight in this healthy and fair competition. I hope that this sporting event will further strengthen friendly relations among ASEAN countries as well as communities," he remarked while opening the multi-sports event at Manahan Stadium, Surakarta City, Central Java Province, on Saturday.
The ASEAN Para Games are special since they can inspire people and show the meaning of equality, he said.
“Para Games athletes are the best athletes who strive to make their country proud," he added.
The athletes have proven that to achieve various goals and accomplishments, the will must be tougher than the obstacles faced, Amin said.
"I welcome all of the proud athletes who represent the 11 Southeast Asian countries to Indonesia, especially to Surakarta City," the Vice President said.
The city is rich in culture and has become the home of the Indonesian National Paralympic Committee (NPC), he added.
"In the city, the first Indonesian National Sports Week was held in 1948. This year (2022), the city is hosting the ASEAN Para Games for the second time -- after implementing the 6th ASEAN Para Games in 2011," he noted.
Furthermore, Amin lauded the Governor of Central Java Ganjar Pranowo, and his rank and file, especially Surakarta Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka and officials, for their hard work in preparing for the sporting event.
After delivering his remarks, he pulled a kris -- traditional Javanese weapon -- and raised it above his head to mark the opening of the 11th APG.
The Para Games will take place in Surakarta City, Karanganyar District, and Semarang City from July 30 to August 6, 2022.
The matches will be held at Manahan Stadium (for athletics and tennis), the sports hall of the Sports Faculty of Sebelas Maret University (boccia and goalball), Kota Barat Field (archery), Tirtonadi Convention Hall (judo and table tennis), and Solo Paragon Hotel (powerlifting).
Other venues include Semarang Jati Diri Sports Hall (swimming), Solo Dwangsa Hotel (chess), Edutorium Building of Muhammadiyah Surakarta University (badminton), stadium of Sebelas Maret University (CP football), Sritex Sports Hall (basketball), as well as sports hall of Tunas Pembangunan University (sitting volleyball).
The Indonesian contingent has sent the highest number of athletes for the games at 324. It is followed by Thailand (303 athletes), Vietnam (119), Cambodia (112), the Philippines (144), Malaysia (70), Myanmar (69), Singapore (37), Laos (37), Timor Leste (15), and Brunei Darussalam (13). (Antaranews)
The 2022 ASEAN Para Games (APG) being held in Surakarta, Central Java Province, demonstrates President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi's) commitment to athletes with disabilities, Minister of Youth and Sports Zainudin Amali has said.
He said that athletes with disabilities have awaited the games for long since the regional sports event had been delayed for four years.
"We are not the initial host; it was Vietnam. But then, because no other countries expressed their interest to host the games, President Joko Widodo instructed us to offer ourselves as the host," Amali stated in his statement here, Sunday.
The minister said that the president's instruction to volunteer as the host of the ASEAN Para Games is due to his mindfulness of the games that can be a platform for athletes with disabilities to compete and make achievements.
The cancellation of the 2020 ASEAN Para Games in the Philippines, the delay of the next Asian Games in Guangzhou until 2023, as well as the limited number of single-event championships reduced the platform that athletes with disabilities can use to showcase their abilities, he added.
"Hence, President Joko Widodo instructed me to provide them a platform to compete. If we are not the host of the game's current edition, perhaps, the game would not be organized again," Amali expounded.
The minister expressed gratitude for collaborations conceived among the central government and ministries, Central Java provincial authority, Surakarta municipal authority, and other stakeholders that made the game preparations smooth.
"Moreover, we mobilise all of our potentials in a very short time," he emphasised.
He also expressed his optimism that Indonesia will achieve success in various sectors, such as sports achievements, administration, and economy, by becoming the host.
"The economic effect is highly positive; flights departing here are all full, and even some (athletes) must use land transportation (to come here). Hotels, car rent, transportation, and culinary business are all thriving. I have observed the economic effect of the event," Amali stated. (antaranews)
