PLN Gradually Recovers Electricity Supply

PLN Gradually Recovers Electricity Supply (0)

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN has recovered electric power to Balaraja Extra High Voltage substation in Banten Province, and furthermore it will be channeled to Suralaya steam-fueled power plant (PLTU) to gradually recover its operation to reach its capacity of 2800 MW of electricity.

In addition, power supply from Gandul Extra High Voltage substations in Depok, West Java Province, will be channeled to Muara Karang gas and steam power plant (PLTGU) to supply electricity to the Indonesian capital city, Jakarta.

Acting President Director of PLN Sripeni Inten Cahyani said here on Sunday that the power supply to Jakarta was expected to recover within three hours.

"We apologize for the inconvenience today, and currently all efforts have been made to recover the Java-Bali power system, especially in the area of West Java, Banten, and Jakarta," Cahyani said.

The company has focused on power supply to PLTGU Muara Karang and PLTGU Priok to recover the system in the capital city.

Previously, PLN has recovered the operation of hydro-generated power plant (PLTA) Saguling and PLTA Cirata which are functioned as power stabilizer, and, at the same time, supply the electricity to PLTU Suralaya through Cibinong, Depok, Gandul, Lengkok, Balaraja and Suralaya extra high voltage substations.

PLTU Suralaya is expected to return to its normal operation within six hours to normalize power system in West Java and Banten.

Blackout that affected thousands of homes and public facilities in West Java, Jakarta, and Banten was caused by several troubles in the extra high voltage 500 kV transmission of Ungaran - Pemalang.

"PLN has taken its best efforts and will have evaluation to prevent recurrence of today's incident," Cahyani said.

Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian at the 2021 Innovative Government Award event in Jakarta on December 29, 2021. (ANTARA/HO-Home Affairs Ministry) -

Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian, here on Wednesday, spoke of his intent to deploy several teams to monitor local governments that were inaccessible and considered less innovative.

Karnavian deemed this step as important after reviewing the regional innovation index assessment results.

"I will send several teams comprising representatives from the Home Affairs Ministry’s Directorate General of Regional Autonomy, Research and Development Agency (BPP), and Inspectorate General," he noted during the 2021 Innovative Government Award (IGA).

The event was held both online and offline at the Sasana Bhakti Praja Building at the ministry’s headquarters, Jakarta.

The team will identify problems faced by each region and find solutions to them.

"We will establish several teams according to the number of the regions, as we want to understand the problems,” the minister affirmed.

Karnavian emphasized that the keys to the success of regional autonomy are leadership as well as the ability of regional heads to create breakthroughs and innovations for the welfare of the community.

Hence, he expressed concern over regions that were less innovative or could not be assessed.

At the 2021 IGA event, it was mentioned that 166 local governments were considered less innovative, while 23 other regions were viewed as being inaccessible, though the figure had decreased, reaching 50 regions in 2020.

Hence, Karnavian urged regional heads to continue to innovate and to explore the region’s potentials to boost the people’s prosperity.

Meanwhile, the regional innovation index had been validated by the ministry’s BPP.

In addition, the quality of the index has been assured by the Special Working Unit for Community Services (UKKPPM) on Scientific Modeling, Application, Research, and Training for City-Centered Innovation and Technology (SMART CITY) of the University of Indonesia//ANT

President Joko Widodo and his Onwards Indonesia cabinet try rowing a dragon boat in Ladongi dam, East Kolaka district, Southeast Sulawesi, on Tuesday (December 28, 2021). (ANTARA/HO-Biro Pers Sekretariat Presiden/Laily Rachev) -

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and several members of his Onwards Indonesia cabinet tried their hand at rowing a dragon boat at Ladongi dam, Southeast Sulawesi, on Tuesday.

Public Works and Public Housing Minister, Basuki Hadimuljono, and Cabinet Secretary, Pramono Anung, were among those who joined the President on the dragon boat.

Meanwhile, Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia played the drums for the rowers to keep in sync with as well as to encourage them.

As seen in a video uploaded on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel, the dragon boat had 15 rowers, including the President and ministers, a drummer, and a boatman who stood at the back.

Although the rowers did not push and pull their oars in unison, the dragon boat sped and circled the dam for about 15 minutes.

President Jokowi inaugurated Ladongi dam on Tuesday. The dam has a capacity of 45.9 million cubic meters and spans 222 hectares.

It will provide irrigation water for rice fields in a number of surrounding districts, such as East Kolaka, Konawe, South Konawe, and Kolaka, Jokowi noted at the inauguration.

He said he expected the dam to provide water for agricultural needs to reinforce self-reliance, sovereignty, and food security.

"Without water, it is impossible for us to achieve what is considered as good food security, good food sovereignty, and good food independence," he remarked.

Ladongi dam also has the potential to become a tourist destination, especially water tourism, he said.

As per data from the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry, Ladongi dam could supply 120 liters of water per second, reduce flooding by 176.6 cubic meters per second, and has 1.3 megawatts worth of electricity potential, he noted.

The dam was built in 2016-2021 at a cost of Rp1.2 trillion.

Vice President Ma'ruf Amin at the 2021 Corporate Performance Rating Rating Program Award in Environmental Management (Proper) at the Vice Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday, December 28, 2021. (ANTARA/HO-Setwapres) -

Vice President Ma'ruf Amin praised various companies for their efforts in boosting Indonesia's COVID-19 vaccination rate through vaccination programs targeting over 200 thousand people.

"I laud this disaster response program as it has been able to encourage companies' actual contribution in fighting COVID-19," Amin stated at the 2021 Corporate Performance Rating Rating Program Award in Environmental Management (Proper) at the Vice Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The vaccination programs conducted by these companies managed to administer the first dose of vaccine to over 230 thousand people and nearly 167 thousand people for the second dose.

Amin also commended the application of criteria for disaster sensitivity and responsiveness in the 2021 Proper Award as indicators for the companies to fulfill in order to bag the award.

"This criterion is very humane, as it calls for commitment from the company leadership to protect their employees," he remarked.

Amin also voiced his support for the cessation of employment termination in the midst of a pandemic.

"Not to terminate employment and increase community empowerment programs in terms of recovering from the pandemic's impacts," he remarked.

The Proper award aims to gauge or encourage industry compliance with environmental protection and management laws and regulations. Their rating is divided into two categories, with one being based on adherence (Blue, Red, Black) and beyond compliance (Gold and Green).

Some 645 companies were placed in the Red category, 1,670 companies were listed under the Blue category, 186 companies categorized as Green, and 47 companies ranked in the Gold category.

The award takes into account several criteria for environmental management and community empowerment that comprise environmental management systems, energy efficiency, emission and greenhouse gas reduction, water efficiency, B3 waste reduction and utilization, 3R waste management, biodiversity protection, community development, implementation of life cycle assessment, and social return on investment.

"I expect that this achievement will continue to be maintained and improved. If there are companies that still fall in the red category, I appeal (to them) to work hard to catch up, so that they could meet (proper) environmental standards as stipulated in various government regulations," he concluded//ANT

Virtual Join press conference on omicron spread Monday (27/12/21) -

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut B. Pandjaitan, and Minister of Health Budi G. Sadikin again held a press conference on the results of the PPKM evaluation on Monday, (27-12-2021). The main topics he explained in this virtual press conference is about developments in the prevention and treatment of Omicron Variants.

"Until now, there have been 46 confirmed cases of Omicron in Indonesia, almost all of them originating from overseas travelers. The rest are officers at Wisma Athletes," said Coordinating Minister Luhut. Meanwhile, he said that as of last Sunday (26-12-2021), the spread of Omicron in the world is expanding. "It has been detected in
115 countries in the world with total cases reaching more than 184,000," he said.

With this development, Coordinating Minister Luhut encouraged parents in areas that have started Covid-19 vaccinations for their children, to immediately bring their children to be vaccinated. "We still have to be careful, because data in other countries shows cases of children have increased because of Omicron," he said. The precautionary principle, according to Coordinating Minister Luhut, is important to maintain even though data from other countries shows that the Omicron variant causes much lower mortality than the Delta variant.

In addition, which is no less important, he also invites the entire community not to travel abroad for holidays. On the other hand, he encouraged the public to take vacation trips within the country only to prevent the transmission of the Omicron Variant and to accelerate the acceleration of domestic economic recovery. "Domestic tourist attractions are no less beautiful than those outside, so I beg you to postpone traveling abroad for the sake of us together," said Coordinating Minister Luhut.

Furthermore, to respond to the increasingly widespread spread of the Omicron variant, Coordinating Minister Luhut emphasized that the entrance to Indonesia will continue to be tightened, both from land, sea and air. The quarantine of foreign travelers (PPLN) for 10-14 days continues to be tightened. The government has prepared anticipatory scenarios to deal with the surge in arrivals of international travellers which is expected to occur early next year.

"There should be no request for dispensation for things that are not necessary except for example for medical purposes or other important matters," said Coordinating Minister Luhut regarding tightening quarantine after arrivals from abroad.

In addition to quarantine, Coordinating Minister Luhut also said the government was preparing Juanda Sidoarjo Airport as an alternative gateway for foreign arrivals. "We continue to coordinate quickly, for example, such as evaluating the readiness of Juanda Airport as an alternative entrance and meeting the logistical needs of all PPLNs who are quarantined at homesteads," added Coordinating Minister Luhut.

The government's decisive steps to prevent the entry of the Omicron variant have been able to keep Covid-19 cases at a low level. Until now, there are still no visible signs of a new wave due to the Omicron variant. Hospitalization rates and death rates are also still showing signs of being quite under control. But we still have to be vigilant. Monitoring the development of Covid cases is carried out continuously up to the city district level and the enforcement of health protocols must still be carried out by the entire community.

"The tightening of community activities will continue to be carried out when they exceed a certain threshold by taking into account daily cases, as well as cases of hospitalization and death," added Coordinating Minister Luhut.

The government will continue to strengthen _testing_and _tracing_ to identify potential cases spreading quickly. The reason is, many of these Omicron variants have been identified as OTG, so tracing is an important key. "Lockdown measures at the micro level like what we did at Wisma Atlet can be implemented if local Omicron transmissions are detected through this method," he added.

Then, the overall achievement of vaccination has also shown good numbers. Coordinating Minister Luhut said that the achievement of vaccination doses 1 and 2 in Java-Bali had reached more than 80 percent and 60 percent, respectively. "But there are still some areas where dose 1 vaccination is below 50 percent. Let's continue to push this number to maximize the level of community immunity," said Coordinating Minister Luhut.

On the same occasion, Minister of Health Budi G. Sadikin explained the four main tactics in dealing with this variant, namely health protocols, surveillance (3T), vaccination, and treatment. "Don't go abroad first, it has been proven that this variant was brought from abroad and many people are infected because they have traveled from abroad," he stressed. Specifically regarding quarantine, Minister of Health Budi strongly requests that PPLNs comply in order to prevent 270 million Indonesians others contracted the Omicron Variant.

Then, he also asked the public to remain obedient to health protocols and use the Peduli Protect application because there are still many who are not disciplined in implementing these preventive measures.

Then, to carry out rapid detection at the gates of foreign arrivals, Minister of Health Budi explained that the government would use new technology in the use of PCR which can detect the Omicron Variant. "We also purchased a new genome sequencing, which will enter early next year and will be widely distributed throughout Indonesia," added Minister of Health Budi.

Closing the press conference, Coordinating Minister Luhut invited all Indonesians to stay safe so that the number of cases remains low and there are no new waves. "Collaboration of all elements of the nation, reminding each other, praying and trying together, and not being selfish with each other is our key to solving this pandemic problem," he concluded//VOI-NK

Trade Minister Muhammad Lutfi has forecast Indonesia to clock a trade surplus of at least US$37 billion this year.

“This year, our oil and gas trade deficit will reach US$12 billion. However, our non-oil and gas trade surplus will surpass US$45 billion. I am convinced that our (trade) surplus this year will reach at least US$37 billion,” Lutfi noted during a press conference held in a hybrid format on Thursday.

The trade surplus stood at $34.32 billion in the year ending November 2021.

The minister noted that Indonesia’s exports in 2021 will be the highest since 2011 when the country’s exports were recorded at US$203.5 billion. Until November 2021, the country’s exports had reached US$208 billion.

“We can imagine if our exports in December are consistent with the first 11 months, Indonesia’s exports will hit a record high of US$230 billion (in 2021),” he pointed out.

The figure suggests that Indonesia’s exports had evolved from primary commodities to processed goods.

“If we look at the year 2011, three of the five export commodities were the primary commodities or mineral commodities, such as coal, rubber, and metal ore. This year, these commodities have evolved into industrial goods,” he remarked.

The minister noted that a decade back, he would have never imagined that steel ore would be one of the country’s key export commodities currently. The other key export commodities are electronics and automotive.  (Antaranews)

The utilization of 30 percent biodiesel (B30) in 2021 helped Indonesia save US$4.54 billion in foreign exchange or equivalent to Rp64.6 trillion, the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry has informed.

Director of downstream oil and gas business development at the ministry, Soerjaningsih, said oil fuel business entities (BU BBM) absorbed 97.89 percent of the allocated 9.21 million kiloliters of B30.

"In addition, the compliance of BU BBM is getting better as they have distributed B30 by 94.17 percent of the total distribution of diesel fuel," she informed in a written statement here on Thursday.

It is hoped that the utilization of B30 in 2022 will run smoothly and its percentage utilization and distribution will increase, she added.

The government has determined that 18 BU BBM will be allocated 10.151 million kiloliters of B30 in 2022, she noted.

Meanwhile, assistant deputy for oil and gas, mining, and petrochemicals at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Andi Novianto, said that President Joko Widodo is committed to using environmentally friendly energy.

In addition to B20 and B30, which have been introduced, the government is developing B100 for a new era of green technology and clean energy, especially in the transportation and industrial sectors, he informed.

Strong collaboration between the government, business entities, and research institutions must continue to be carried out to resolve the challenges to the mandatory use of biofuels in 2022, he said.

Director of fund distribution at the Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency, (BPDPKS) Edi Wibowo, lauded the implementation of B30, which is a mixture of 30 percent palm oil and 70 percent diesel.

He noted that the funds disbursed for palm oil plantation in 2021 reached Rp51.86 trillion, with volume pegged at 9.7 million kiloliters -- an increase compared to 2020, when the funds were recorded at Rp28 trillion.

According to the agency, in 2015–2021, at least Rp110 trillion was spent on 29.14 million kiloliters of biodiesel.

The mandatory use of B30 is one of the government's attempts to increase the utilization of renewable energy and to reduce the international trade balance deficit, it added. (Antaranews)

Indonesia's G20 Presidency will support women's empowerment, especially in the fields of digital literacy and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), as well as ultra micro-enterprise, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics has said.

As chair of the G20, Indonesia has held the G20 Women's Empowerment Kickoff Meeting initiated by Women20 and G20 Empower, according to a press statement issued by the ministry on Thursday.

At the meeting, Indonesia G20 Presidency's Empower Working Group and the W20 Engagement Group brought up the priority issue of support for MSMEs and building digital skills among women.

The Empower Working Group voiced support for women's equality under the second priority issue, namely "women in SMEs as drivers of economic growth: context, connect, and change", and third priority issue “building a future-ready economy by increasing the involvement of women in the economy and workforce through upskilling and digital enablement”, it added.

Meanwhile, the W20 emphasized economic inclusivity through support for women in the second priority issue: “achieving economic inclusion by supporting MSMEs owned and managed by women”.

The Ministry of Communication and Informatics said it will ensure the functioning of the Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG) and that the digital transformation envisaged by the working group and the engagement group takes place smoothly.

The ministry further said it welcomes and encourages mainstreaming of women in digital economic activities, bolstering inclusivity, and empowering digital capability—issues that have been brought up by the W20 and Empower Working Group.

The ministry informed that it is also striving for more inclusive participation of vulnerable groups within the digital capability program through DEWG's second priority issue that pushes increasing digital skills and digital literacy.

The document will be a reference point for G20 to encourage digital participation among vulnerable groups and to realize, in a collective effort, a digital economy that would include every element of society, the ministry said.

In addition, the document is expected to identify and provide concrete recommendations on the digital gap experienced by vulnerable groups, it added.

Examples of such vulnerable groups include women and children, indigenous communities, digital migrants, and MSMEs affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the ministry said.

The ministry further said it has provided digital training this year to more than 12.5 million people, 52 percent of whom were women.

The ministry informed that it has also launched the Digital Entrepreneurship Academy, whose participants include housewives, to develop digital-based MSMEs. (Antaranews)

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has said his government will continue to build infrastructure, both small and large scale, considering that infrastructure is the foundation and fundamental to improving Indonesia's economic competitiveness.

"I am still going to continue this program," he stated at the 7th anniversary of the Indonesia Solidarity Party (PSI) on Wednesday.

Many parties have questioned the government's policy of building a lot of infrastructures, such as the construction of toll roads, ports, and airports, he noted.

"Many of them ask the purpose of this program. They say that people do not eat asphalt. But once again I emphasize, we want to compete with other countries," he remarked.

Indonesia must be able to compete with other countries by increasing economic growth, encouraging competitiveness, and creating many job opportunities, President Jokowi said.

With this aspiration, infrastructure is the foundation and a fundamental requirement for increasing competitiveness, he explained.

"Because for me road infrastructure means welfare. If there is no road, there will be no infrastructure and no products," he remarked.

He said the impact of infrastructure development will not be seen in the short term. However, with the presence of infrastructure, Indonesia already has the foundation to compete with other countries in order to improve people's welfare, he added.

Furthermore, the Head of State emphasized that the government should not only build large-scale infrastructure, but also pay attention to small-scale and rural infrastructure.

In the last five years, fund transfers to villages reached Rp 400.1 trillion, he noted. In addition, the government has also built 227 thousand kilometers of village roads during the same period, he informed.

"We also pay attention to small infrastructure such as village roads. Until today, we have transferred Rp 400.1 trillion to villages in the last five years to build village roads, reservoirs, irrigation, bridges, public markets, and village-owned enterprises or BUM Desa," he added.  (antaranews)
