Primaduta Award for Lebanese Businessman (0)
The Indonesian Embassy in Beirut has acknowledged its continued support for trade cooperation improvement between Indonesia and Lebanon. Indonesian Ambassador to Lebanon Hajriyanto Y Thohari gave the Primaduta Award to Lebanese businessman and importer, George R Fattouh. The award was given for his service in helping market Indonesian products in Paris from the Middle East. The award was given at a ceremony at the Indonesian Embassy in Beirut, Thursday (11/1) Fatough, is the owner of George R. Fattouh S.A.L, a business that has been importing Indonesian products since the 1980s. It has a range of products, including: palm oil and its derivatives, oil and fats (including cocoa butter substitute, fat spread, hydrogenated palm kernel oil, and lauric confectionery fats), cardboard, stationary, and school equipment. Some Indonesian products are now even available at famous retail networks, such as Spinney’s and Carrefour. In 2022, the value imported by George R. Fattough S.A.L of Indonesian products, was 981.3 million USD. This was a 149.5 million USD increase when compared to 2021. Fattouh said Indonesian products are known for their quality and are in high demand in Lebanese markets. However, he said, the challenge now is increasing freight costs due to security challenges in the region.

Listeners, a number of delicious dishes were served to the guests of Dhaup Ageng Pura Pakualaman Yogyakarta, at the wedding reception of the youngest son of K.G.P.A.A. Paku Alam X, namely B.P.H. Kusumo Kuntonugroho with Laily Annisa Kusumastuti which was held on January 10, 2024.Head of the Customs and Accommodation Division, Dhaup Ageng Pura Pakualaman, KRT Radyo Wisroyo said that the menu served to guests was quite varied. These menus are typical menus prepared by Pakualaman Pura, Indonesian menus and western food menus were also available. All invited guests including VIP and VVIP guests got the same menu. The first menu served to welcome guests, namely two types of welcome drink, namely lime lemongrass and ginger drink with lime. The welcome drink was given when guests sat down and watched the Bedhaya Sidamukti and Bedhaya Kakung Indrawidagda dance performances. Next, they gotsnacks for appetizer such as croquettes and other light snacks. There is a snack that is considered quite special and rare called Garulina. Garulina was the opening snack at the Pahargyan Dhaup Ageng Pakualaman lunch on the first day. Garulina has been around since the era before Indonesian independence. Garulina is actually not a typical Central Javanese food. It looks like the Lapis Legit layered cake, but there is something different, because there is a special layer like vla which is made from fresh milk, eggs and sugar. To get this sweet snack, Pakulaman Temple has to place a special order from the third generation of makers who have been pioneering since the 1950s. In Jogja, Garulina is very difficult to find and is considered rare because it is not sold every day.

Indonesian Muslim Business Women Association (IPEMI) Japan Commemorates National Batik Day with a Fashion Show

Indonesian Muslim Business Women Association (IPEMI) Japan commemorated the National Batik Day on October 2022 by holding a fashion show at Yamashita Park, Yokohama, Sunday.
IPEMI Japan Chairperson Sari Okano, when met in Yokohama on Sunday (2/10) said the event was not only a gathering for all members and Indonesian citizens in Japan, but also to introduce batik to the people in Japan.
Sari explained that there are a lot of batik, starting from the written batik and the printed one. The regions of Indonesia have their own specialty in pattern and color.
The participants, wearing batik clothing and accessories, were lining up and going around the Yamashita Park, while posing and showing their clothing. The Indonesian typical cloth attracted the visitors of Yamashita Park, including the Japanese who did not only watch but also join the event.
Besides the fashion show, the event was also enlivened by a Sundanese dance by a former finalist of Akademi Fantasi Indosiar talent show - Latsmi AFI. The event was continued with a singing performance, doorprize, and award for the best batik costume.
The National Batik Day was held for the third time by IPEMI after the online one in Ginza, Tokyo because of the pandemic.
By holding the event in public, the IPEMI Japan Chairperson Sari Okano hoped many Japanese were interested in batik as an Indonesian cultural heritage as recognized by UNESCO since 2009.

Indonesian Embassy in Colombo participates in the "Kebaya Goes to UNESCO" campaign

The Indonesian Embassy in Colombo, Sri Lanka participated in the "Kebaya Goes to UNESCO" campaign through a cultural and charity bazaar held in the courtyard of the Indonesian Embassy on Saturday, (1/10).
Indonesian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Dewi Gustina Tobing in her written statement on Sunday (2/10), explained that "Kebaya Goes to UNESCO" is a campaign carried out by the kebaya lover community so that it can be recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for intangible cultural heritage.
The campaign continues to receive support from various parties, including government agencies, Indonesian representatives abroad, and various communities.
Ambassador Dewi said that the purpose of holding the charity bazaar was to help Sri Lankans in need, as a result of the economic crisis. Proceeds from the sale will be donated to vulnerable communities in Sri Lanka.
In addition, Ambassador Dewi further said, the bazaar was also intended to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Indonesia-Sri Lanka diplomatic relations and the 30th anniversary of the Sri Lanka-Indonesia Friendship Association.
Angklung musical instrument was also performed as part of the charity bazaar program, which was attended by government officials, diplomatic representatives, businesspeople, religious leaders, and other invitees.
The kebaya lover community supported and participated in introducing the kebaya, which is the hallmark and identity of Indonesian women so that it can be recognized by UNESCO.

Indonesia and Albania agree to increase trade and tourism cooperation

Indonesian Ambassador to Bulgaria, Albania and North Macedonia, Iwan Bogananta held a meeting with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama. They agreed to increase the two countries’ cooperation in the fields of trade, tourism and investment. The Indonesian Embassy in Sofia stated that the increasing cooperation with Albania would also encourage Indonesia to jack up cooperation with countries in the Balkan region. Based on the information of the Indonesian Embassy in Sofia received in Jakarta on Wednesday (28/9), Ambassador Iwan's meeting with Prime Minister Rama took place at the Albanian Prime Minister's office in Tirana last Monday (26/9).
During the meeting, Ambassador Iwan pointed out several important agendas, including the development of Indonesia-Albania bilateral cooperation, particularly in the fields of trade, tourism and investment. He also said that it aims at opening up new spaces and opportunities for the Indonesian market in the Balkans and as a form of support for economic development in Indonesia.
On that occasion, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama will keep on supporting the bilateral working plan with Indonesia in the future, particularly in the trade sector , tourism and investment. Albania is a country with a population of 2.7 million people with a Muslim population of 56 percent. Albania has the potential to become a center for trade activities for Indonesian products to enter the territory of the Balkan countries.

Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo Always Supports the Creativity of Indonesian Artists in World Competitions

Indonesian artists, Fadjar Kurnia and Muhammad Fahry Aziz from the Fox the Folks became judges in the Tokyo Light One Minute Projection Mapping 2022 competition in Japan. Fadjar Kurnia in Tokyo on Wednesday (21/9) admitted that he never expected to be on a jury in prestigious competition. He hopes that in the future,there will be many Indonesian men and women who make many achievements abroad.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Fahry Aziz hopes thatthe Fox's the Folks work can inspire young Indonesian and world artists. The two Indonesian video mapping creators will not only act as judges, but also become special guests to exhibit their new works in order to enliven the competition of Tokyo Light One Minute Projection Mapping with the theme “Life”. In 2021, the Fox the Folks won the Grand Prize and Audience Award categories in the same competition.
The competition is an art of projection mapping which combines the arrangement of light and sound in a unique work of art that is strictly assessed by an international panel of experts. The involvement of the two Indonesian artists received appreciation from the Indonesian Ambassador to Japan and the Federation of Micronesia, Heri Akhmadi.
Moreover, Ambassador Heri assessed the selection of the Fox the Folks as one of the judges at the Tokyo Light One Minute Projection Mapping 2022 is proof of the success of young Indonesian artists appearing in international competitions. He also said the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo always supports the creativity of Indonesian artists in the world competition. The Ambassador hopes that in the future Indonesia-Japan cooperation through collaboration in the creative industries can continue. Tokyo Light One Minute Projection Mapping 2022 will be held at the Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery/ Tokyo/ on 17-19 September 2022

When you hear the name Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia, what most people think of is a densely-populated capital city with the hustle and bustle of high life mobility. It is undeniable that in some parts, there are things that cannot be separated from Jakarta, from traffic jams to pollution. But who would have thought that Jakarta is included in the top 20 big cities with the highest healthy lifestyle in the world?
This ranking was obtained after going through an assessment by a research institute YouGov, which is based in the United Kingdom. In the process, there are a number of indicators for assessment ranging from happiness level, outdoor activities and many more. This assessment study was conducted on 44 cities around the world. A city with a healthy lifestyle means a city that enables the community or its residents to be fully supported to live a healthy lifestyle as a whole. There are about 10 indicators that are used as an assessment, including the influence of pollution levels, environmental conditions, lifestyle choices, hours of sunshine, level of happiness, facilities for outdoor activities, monthly fitness center subscription fee, and many others.
From the assessment of the YouGouv research institute, Jakarta is ranked 17th below Toronto and Madrid, which are ranked 15 and 16. Meanwhile, the same position also makes Jakarta outperform several cities in other developed countries, such as Seoul, Los Angeles, Boston, Tokyo, Paris, London and New York. There are several assessment indicators that, if seen, make Jakarta more attractive and superior to other cities. Take for example, the obesity rate in Jakarta is relatively low which is 6.9 percent, with a life expectancy of 68.5 years. In terms of health facilities, Jakarta is also recorded as having 114 outdoor activities that can be used by the community. In addition, there are as many as 833 places that can be visited by the public to carry out outdoor activities. Meanwhile, in terms of the cost of using the services of a health facility or gym, the membership fee in Jakarta seems to be cheaper than other cities like Madrid or Seoul.

Documentary film on the history of the Japanese war in Indonesia screened in Tokyo

The documentary film “Masa Kini adalah Masa Lalu: Ayah, Jawa dan Film-Film Ilusi” or in English means “The Present is the Past: Father, Java and Illusionary Films”, which tells the history of the Japanese occupation of Indonesia during the Pacific War, was screened in Tokyo, last Sunday (18/9).
The film's Director, Shinichi Ise said in a statement in Tokyo on Sunday that the film was the result of his efforts to trace films produced by his father during the war and the Japanese occupation in Indonesia.
Shinichi's father, Chonosuke Ise (1912-1973), was known as a film editor who co-produced propaganda films that justified Japan's hegemony in Asia. At that time, Japan occupied various regions in Asia in the Pacific War under the pretext of liberating the region from European colonialism. Chonosuke was sent to work for a Japanese film company in Java, Nihon Eigasha (Nichiei), as a reporter from 1943 to 1945.
Shinichi admitted that he started doing research while following in his father's footsteps 30 years ago. About 130 propaganda films, which were produced by Chonosuke, Shinichi said, were found to be stored and preserved at the Dutch Audio Visual Archives (the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision). Shinichi has tried to find the essence of the war in Indonesia by looking for his father's works.
The documentary film “Masa Kini adalah Masa Lalu” (Ima wa Mukashi) was screened at the Hibiya Library and Museum, Hibiya Convention Hall in Japanese at 11.00 local time and with Indonesian subtitles at 13.45 local time.

ASEAN Ladies Circle Forum in Beijing becomes an exhibition of National Kebaya

The ASEAN Ladies Circle Forum in Beijing on Tuesday (13/9) exhibited various kinds of kebaya (Javanese long-sleeved blouses and dresses for women). At least 8 kinds of kebaya, such as Labuh, Karancang, Encim, Kartini, Kutubaru, Bali, Ambon and modern traditional clothes were demonstrated by Dharma Wanita women's organization in Beijing before diplomatic women from ASEAN countries and friendly countries. Chairwoman of the Beijing Dharma Wanita women's organization, Sih Elsiwi Handayani Oratmangun pointed out that her side highlighted the kebaya because it is not only a national cultural heritage, but also a representation of the identity of Indonesian women. She hopes that through the exhibition, participants understand the history of the kebaya and its role in shaping the culture of the archipelago.
Apart from the Indonesian kebaya exhibition, the event also featured the launch of a book entitled “Flavors of Indonesia” which is a compilation of home-cooked typical recipes of the archipelago, such as rendang (meat slow-cooked in coconut milk and spices), Soto Wonosobo savory soup, ayam betutu (Balinese spiced chicken) and jalangkote (fried pastry). Besides women from ASEAN diplomatic circles, the event held in Wisma Duta of the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing was also attended by Director of General Affairs and Coordination Division of the ASEAN-China Center, Hong Li and women from representative offices of several friendly countries, such as Pakistan, Turkey, Madagascar, Algeria, Cameroon, Bahrain, and China. The invitees were served various types of typical snacks and beverages of the archipelago, such as risoles (Indonesian fried spring rolls), croquettes, tempeh, pandan cake, dadar gulung filled with grated coconut that has been cooked in a palm sugar sauce, chicken satay, bubur sumsum (rice flour porridge with palm sugar sauce), and pickled fruit.

Night Market ends the 77th Indonesian Anniversary at Indonesian Embassy in Antananarivo

At the closing of the 77th Anniversary of Indonesia event from September 10 to 11 2022, the Indonesian Embassy in Antananarivo held a night market to promote Indonesian cuisine and culture to the people in Madagascar.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the people of Madagascar cannot visit Indonesia, but the Night Market brought Indonesia to Madagascar. That was stated by the Head of Indonesian Representative in Antananarivo, Benny Yan Pieter Siahaan. The event was welcomed enthusiastically by hundreds of visitors from many countries, such as Madagascar, Egypt, Uganda, Mali, Cameroon, China, USA, the Union of the Comoros, France, India, Germany, Belgium, Morocco, Russia, and Netherlands.
The Night Market presented 6 booths, such as Batik Chantique, Face Painting, as well as various Indonesian arts, handicrafts, and cuisines such as soto mie, bakso malang, chicken satay, and bajigur.
As the host of the Night Market, the leader of San Cristobal Hotel, Junior Rakotomalala felt honored to partner with the Mercure Hotel Alarobia and DWP of the Indonesian Embassy in Antananarivo, which prepared various Indonesian traditional foods. He was impressed by the foods that mostly used imported and authentic ingredients that are not available in Madagascar.
The Night Market was even more colorful with videos about Indonesian tourism, banners of Wonderful Indonesia and the 77th Indonesian Anniversary, photobooths, and banners of Trade Expo Indonesia to promote the international trade exhibition to be held in October 2022.

Indonesia and Japan to improve cooperation in manufacturing industry

Indonesia and Japan keep improving cooperation in the manufacturing sector through a number of strategic steps and implementation of the commitments that have been made. One of the agendas that are the focus of the two countries is the completion of the protocol for amendments to the Indonesia-Japan Economic Partnership Economic Agreement (IJ-EPA) which will be announced by the leaders of the two countries at the G20 Summit in Bali in November 2022. Indonesian Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita in his statement last Thursday (8/9) said that his side will open wider access and more substantive offer. Hopefully, this will be a win-win solution for both parties.
According to Minister Agus Gumiwang, for several issues that are still being negotiated in the IJ-EPA cooperation, they include trade in goods, services, economic cooperation, movement of individuals to the Rule of Origin. There are also issues related to industry, implementation of cooperation in the field of industrial sector development through New Manufacturing Industry Development Center (New MIDEC), and improved offer for steel products. While on the agenda of the G20 Presidency, the Indonesian Ministry of Industry expects support from the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan for the sustainability of industrial inclusion in discussions at the G20 forum. In Trade, Investment, and Industry, the Working Group of the G20 Indonesia 2022 Presidency, the government proposes industrial inclusion in the discussion of the G20 forum, and hopes that the discussion of industrial issues can be carried out sustainably.
In the Zero Draft Ministerial Statement on Trade,Investment and Industry which has been distributed to G20 members, Indonesia proposes an alternative to the establishment of an Industry Working Group. It is a forum for discussing industrial issues in the next G20 Presidency. On one hand, the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, Nishimura Yasutoshi expressed his appreciation for the Indonesian Presidency at the G20, and supports the discussion of industrial issues to be continued. On the other hand, Indonesia expects Japan's support to achieve zero emission through innovative technology cooperation.

Indonesia Prepares the Way for the United Nations' Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response Agenda

Pandemic readiness is a priority for Indonesia. As a manifestation of this priority, Indonesia pioneered the holding of the High-Level Meeting (HLM) on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness, and Response (PPPR) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA in 2023.
In its preparation, Indonesia continues to voice the involvement of World Health Organization -WHO as a hub-of-knowledge and information. Indonesia also continues to emphasize the importance of comprehensive, inclusive, and inter-disciplinary discussions on the PPPR. This is in line with efforts to harmonize the PPPR discussions in New York and Geneva.
On September 2, 2022, the PPPR Core Group, including Indonesia in it, presented and proposed a draft UN resolution, which mandates the implementation of the PPPR High Level Meeting before the General Assembly. The draft resolution was successfully agreed upon by consensus, with the support of 129 countries as Co-Sponsors. This strong support is a mandate for the President of the UN General Assembly to prepare for the implementation of the PPPR High Level Meeting.
The PPPR High Level Meeting is expected to be the first high-level meeting and landmark for the pandemic preparedness agenda at the United Nations in New York. The meeting is believed to be able to garner political support from countries on the issue of pandemic preparedness in a bid to support the process of drafting a pandemic treaty at the United Nations in Geneva.
South Africa's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, representing the PPPR Core Group said that in 2023, this meeting will underscore the commitment of countries to integrate joint efforts to prevent, improve preparedness, and respond to a pandemic.
