The shadow puppet and Indonesian Gamelan performances were the final presentation of the series of ASEAN Week 2021 events organized by the ASEAN Centre at MGIMO University since November 22, 2021, and filled with various cultural arts performances from ASEAN countries. In a press release from the Indonesian Embassy in Moscow received in Bandar Lampung, Lampung Sunday (28 /11), the activity ended on Friday (26/11) and it was attended by around 100 students and lecturers at MGIMO Moscow University. MGIMO Deputy Chancellor for International Relations, Andrey Baykov gave a positive appreciation for the implementation of ASEAN Week 2021 that is certain to provide a better understanding of culture ASEAN countries among students. In particular, he thanked the Indonesian Embassy in Moscow for participating in this activity and hopefully, the cooperation with MGIMO can continue well in the future.
Representing Indonesian Ambassador in Moscow, Coordinator of the Social Information Function and Culture of the Indonesian Embassy in Moscow, Nanang Syaiful Fadilah stated that Gamelan and shadow puppet are one of the many cultural arts that are "alive" in Indonesia and are often performed among the Javanese community. Shadow puppets are the pride of Indonesia because on November 7, 2003, UNESCO designated it as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. Director of the ASEAN Centre MGIMO, Ekaterina Koldunova also expressed her appreciation and gratitude to the students from other ASEAN countries that participated in the event, especially to the Indonesian Embassy in Moscow that had been willing to accept the invitation to Gamelan and shadow puppet performances.
Meanwhile, MGIMO University Lecturer, Viktor Sumsky expressed his joy at being able to hear the melodious sound of Gamelan and shadow puppet performances again after a long absence from Indonesia. Maybe, one day it will be necessary to hold a complete puppet and Gamelan show here, for example to celebrate MGIMO's birthday. Besides Indonesia at the closing ASEAN Week 2021, dances and songs from Vietnam and Laos were also performed by students.
