FIFA's Letter to President Jokowi Regarding the Kanjuruhan Tragedy

The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, ensured that the World Football Federation (FIFA) did not impose sanctions related to the Kanjuruhan Tragedy. Jokowi also read out the contents of the letter from FIFA sent to him.

This news was conveyed directly by President Jokowi through uploading a video on the Presidential Secretariat's Youtube channel, Friday (7/10/2022) evening WIB. This was said by Jokowi after speaking with FIFA President Gianni Infantino a few days ago.

"Yesterday I received a letter from FIFA. This is a follow-up to my conversation with the FIFA president, Gianni Infantino, on October 3, 2022," Jokowi said in a video uploaded to the Presidential Secretariat's Youtube channel.

"Based on the letter, Alhamdulilah, Indonesian football has not been sanctioned by FIFA. FIFA together with the government will form a transformation team for Indonesian football. FIFA will have its office in Indonesia during these processes," Jokowi added.

Furthermore, Jokowi said that FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, would also visit Indonesia in the near future. He will come to discuss with the government to fix Indonesian football.

"Later, the FIFA President will come to Indonesia in October or November to discuss with the government," he said.

On the same occasion, the President also read out the contents of the letter sent by FIFA. The following points were conveyed by President Jokowi regarding the contents of the letter sent by FIFA:

(1) FIFA will help build stadium safety standards in all stadiums in Indonesia;

(2) FIFA will formulate standard protocols and security procedures carried out by the police based on international security standards;

(3) FIFA will conduct socialization and discussion with football clubs in Indonesia. Including supporters' representatives to get advice and input as well as mutual commitments;

(4) FIFA and the government will work together to arrange a match schedule that takes into account the potential risks;

(5) FIFA will provide assistance from experts in the field of football. (RRI)
