President Joko Widodo believes that Tesla, the world's electric vehicle company from the United States, will build a factory in Indonesia. This was conveyed in an interview with The Economist, quoted Monday (14/11/2022).

The president acknowledged that the government is still negotiating with Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, regarding the plan. "But I believe they will build a battery factory and car industry in Indonesia," he said.

According to the Head of State, Indonesia is one of the big markets in the electric vehicle sector. "I believe in it and it is an opportunity," he said.

Previously, President Jokowi had met Elon Musk during a visit to the United States last May. After that, the Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahdalia stated that Tesla would invest in Indonesia.

Menives' statement was delivered at the Batang Integrated Industrial Estate (KITB), Central Java, last May. In addition to Tesla, Bahlil said big companies such as LG and Foxconn will invest there. (RRI)
