Indonesia Elected as a Member of the UNWTO Executive Board for the 2023-2027 Period

The 55th Meeting of the UNWTO Commission for East Asia and The Pacific (CAP) at Sokha Residence, Phnom Penh, Cambodia - 

 

Indonesia was successfully elected as a member of the UNWTO Executive Council for the 2023-2027 term with China, South Korea and Japan representing the East Asia and Pacific region and will support the success of the UNWTO General Assembly in October 2023.

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of the Indonesian Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Menparekraf/Kabaparekraf) of the Republic of Indonesia, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno after attending the 55th Meeting of the UNWTO Commission for East Asia and The Pacific (CAP) at Sokha Residence, Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Friday (15/6/2023), said, Indonesia was elected after getting the most votes and won one of the four Executive Council seats with the most votes.

Representing the East Asia and Pacific Commission together with China, Japan and South Korea, Indonesia is responsible for compiling UNWTO programs in the Asia Pacific region to be reported in the General Assembly.

"Thank God we managed to get the most votes, this is an achievement and thank you for your cooperation," said Sandiaga Uno.

For this achievement, Menparekraf Sandiaga Uno expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu) of the Republic of Indonesia, especially Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi.

In addition, appreciation was also given to the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy team and the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) for Cambodia.

"And thank you, Ms. Foreign Minister, because Mrs. Foreign Minister intervened herself too and this is a trust for Indonesia that we must protect," said Sandiaga Uno.

According to a release received by Voice of Indonesia on Saturday, Indonesia through the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is committed to encouraging the development of the tourism sector in the East Asia, ASEAN and Pacific regions by focusing on sustainable tourism, human resources, digitalization and tourism transformation.

On the same occasion, Indonesia also advanced to become part of the Task Force on "Redesigning Tourism for The Future".

Through this special UNWTO work team, Indonesia has the opportunity to design the future of the world's tourism sector.

The new tourism concept is expected to have a positive impact on the world tourism sector and the archipelago. So that business opportunities are increasingly created and employment opportunities are increasingly open.

"Of course we also take on a Chair in the Redesigning Tourism for the Future program. So this is a very tough task and the team must remain solid," he said.

"Because the target is tourism which can revive our economy, accelerate our development, with a total of 4.4 million jobs in 2024," said Sandiaga Uno//VOI
