The Indonesian Sustainability Forum (ISF), one of the largest global events on sustainability issues in the Asia Pacific, closed with the signing of a series of Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) that will contribute to a faster green energy transition and inclusive economy in Indonesia on Friday (8/9 /2023) at Park Hyatt Jakarta.
Around 2,000 people from 41 countries attended the two-day meeting, including a number of high-ranking government officials such as the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, James Marape, heads of global organizations such as the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, and the President World Bank, Ajay Banga.
The Indonesian government, through the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko Marves), is hosting ISF 2023, in collaboration with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia).
Deputy for Infrastructure and Transportation Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Rachmat Kaimuddin, said that the large interest of the participants indicated that there was a positive shift in this region to support the sustainability agenda. Likewise, there were important partnerships signed at this event.
"The sustainability agenda is not a check-the-box activity for governments and businesses. The sustainability agenda is more about changing business models in consumption and growth, to ensure that progress towards prosperity can continue quickly, while protecting our planet. In context "This, public and private sector partnerships can support the creation of an ecosystem for green and new businesses to grow."
Deputy Rachmat added that international collaboration could be the key to breaking down barriers for the world to embrace sustainable growth. In particular, the obstacles are high financing, limited access to technology and human resources.
Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Maritime, Investment and Foreign Affairs Coordinator, Shinta Kamdani, said that this Forum provides an opportunity for the private sector to make concrete and meaningful contributions to the sustainability agenda.
"The Indonesian business community is ready to assume greater responsibility to ensure that sustainable practices are embedded in our business models and operations. The private sector has been the driving force behind Indonesia's growth in recent years, therefore every positive change we strive to support "The sustainability agenda will have a positive domino effect for society and the planet. We want to further strengthen the concrete collaboration formed through this forum in the coming weeks and months," said Shinta.
