The Head of National Library receiving an award from the Head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, DKI Jakarta, Ibnu Chuldun in Jakarta -
The award was given to the National Library as a Working Partner who has increased Literacy for Inmates in Prisons and Detention Centers as well as students in Special Children's Development Institutions (LPKA). The National Library received this award because it also provides guidance and assistance to correctional inmates in terms of literacy.
The award was received by the Director of the National Library, Muhammad Syarif Bando, from the Head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, DKI Jakarta, Ibnu Chuldun, in the art performance activity "Darma Bakti to Eve" which was held by the Technical Implementation Unit for Correctional Centers (UPT Bapas) throughout DKI Jakarta in the National Library Auditorium, Floor 2, Jalan Medan. South Merdeka, Monday (11/9/2023).
This activity was held to celebrate the 78th Anniversary of Indonesian Independence and Darma Karya Dika Day of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.
Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej said that based on Law Number 22 of 2022 concerning Corrections, fathers have important duties and functions in terms of guiding various aspects, including the arts. Thus, aspects of art that were initially secondary or a hobby have now turned into a large industry, especially as a nation's cultural identity.
"We understand very well that the task of the father is not an easy one because he has to ensure that the inmates who return to society are accepted, then not only accepted but also do not repeat criminal acts, and after that they must be of benefit to society," he said.
According to a release received by Voice of Indonesia, the Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights expressed his appreciation for the activities which were carried out in a grand and lively manner, and involved clients and correctional inmates.
He hopes that creation and guidance in the arts can be carried out consistently, so that he can produce great creators, dancers and musicians in the future.
“I appreciate what my colleagues at the fathers in the DKI Jakarta area are doing. "Activities like this must be supported and if possible be carried out every year as a form of refreshing and showing the creativity of clients and correctional inmates," he said.
This art performance presents a series of dance performances, songs and a film screening entitled "To Eve". The film provides an opportunity for the invited guests present to recognize the importance of children and women in their contribution to every aspect of life in Indonesia.
Meanwhile, Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Bintang Puspayoga appreciated the activities held by UPT Bapas throughout DKI Jakarta. He believes that guiding and developing are noble deeds that are full of meaning, especially as a form of service to the nation and humanity at large with full sincerity.
"What the Bapas throughout DKI Jakarta have done is a clear good example that state civil servants must be creative, not use a single approach, and have sensitivity to the needs of the community, especially correctional clients," he concluded in a video recording//VOI
