Indonesia and Cambodia explore cooperation in construction and urban planning development

Indonesian Ambassador to Cambodia, Santo Darmosumarto held a meeting with  Cambodia Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, Say Samal in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on Thursday (4/4). As quoted from the official statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh on Saturday (6/4), at the meeting, they hoped to work together in developing infrastructure and urban landscapes in Cambodia. Ambassador Santo conveyed that Indonesian State-Owned Enterprises have experience in developing projects abroad and have the desire to be involved in construction and urban development projects in Cambodia.

 

Moreover, to strengthen institutional cooperation, especially land management, Ambassador Santo encouraged exchange of visits among officials from the Cambodian Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction and officials from the Indonesian Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning. Besides, Ambassador Santo also expressed Indonesia's intention to offer more capacity development programs and scholarships for  civil servants of Cambodia.

 

Responding to Ambassador Santo's statement, Cambodian Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, Say Samal hopes to work with the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh to provide training for civil servants in his ministry. Minister Say Samal also hopes that Cambodia can learn from Indonesia in developing urban planning, such as urban planning in Denpasar, Bali,  Yogyakarta, Special Region of Yogyakarta and Bandung, West Java. The meeting between Ambassador Santo and Minister Say Samal took place a month after the meeting between the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo and the Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Manet on the sidelines of the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit in Melbourne, Australia, on 5th March  2024. At the meeting, infrastructure cooperation was one of the main topics.
