Indonesian Embassy in Pyongyang to be reopened

Indonesia will re-operate the Indonesian Embassy in Pyongyang which has been empty since July 2021. Recently, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a special team to Pyongyang to make preparations.

The reopening of the Indonesian Embassy in Pyongyang is one of the themes discussed at the 59th anniversary of President Kim Il Sung's visit to Indonesia on Friday (5/4). Counselor for the North Korean Embassy, So Kwang-Yun, in his remarks at the commemoration, said that this year marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which was marked by President Sukarno's visit to Pyongyang on November 1 to 4 1964. He also said that Indonesia and North Korea are preparing for the reopening of the Indonesian Embassy in Pyongyang. He also believes that relations between the two countries in the future will be even more substantial.

Counselor So Kwang Yun also invited all attendees to remember the efforts of the founding fathers of both countries to liberate nations in Asia and Africa from the grip of colonialism.

A similar thing was conveyed by the Director of East Asia at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Arifianto Sofiyanto. He said that the reopening of the Indonesian Embassy in Pyongyang reflects the good relations of both countries that were built by the founding fathers of Indonesia and North Korea. He also said that North Korea is one of Indonesia's old friends. The relations between the two countries should continue to be improved.

The commemoration, which was held at Griya Anggrek, Bogor Botanical Gardens, was also attended by the Chairman of the Indonesia-Korea Friendship Association, Teguh Santosa, and lecturer in International Relations, FISIP Unpad, Teuku Rezasyah.

This activity was also filled with a photo exhibition and screening of a documentary film on the visit of President Kim Il Sung and his son, Kim Jong Il to Indonesia.
