Internationalizing Indonesian Language in Spain

The Indonesian Embassy in Madrid,  Spain  again held  Indonesian Language classes for Foreign Speakers  (BIPA ) 2024 on  Tuesday (2/4). BIPA classes are held in a hybrid manner to facilitate 75 participants who come from some regions in Spain,  Chile, Ecuador and Peru,  including Indonesia. Indonesian Ambassador to Spain, Muhammad Najib stressed the importance of internationalizing the Indonesian language to strengthen relations between Indonesia and Spain in which not only to improve business and political relations,  but also to promote tourism and culture.  Ambassador Najib on the website of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday ( 2/4) mentioned that learning a language is like a door to enter a new culture or new world.


The BIPA class is   held from April 4th until June 28th, 2024 and participants are divided into 3 class levels, namely for Beginner,  Advanced I and Advanced II learners. Apart from teaching and learning activities,  the class  includes watching films and singing Indonesian songs together.  Ambassador Najib affirmed that as a cultural promotion, fun teaching and learning activity, it is hoped that it will help participants understand Indonesian more easily.  At the opening of the class, as additional motivation for the participants, the BIPA Team from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology also announced the agenda "Handai Indonesia Festival 2024. The festival which will take place in Bali is oriented to foreign citizens who can speak Indonesian. Since 20 November 2023, Indonesian has become one of the 10 official languages of the UNESCO General Conference. This international recognition further confirms the benefits of mastering Indonesian.
